You don't think Pittsburgh's defense and our inability to run had anything to do with that as well?

That was an inexcusable place to throw one.

The term inexcusable is pretty clear, as in no excuses there.

I'm perfectly capable of knowing situations in football and in that situation he has to know that of all things he CANNOT DO WHAT HE DID!!!

Does he not know what a zone blitz is because that's all it was, a normal blitzer dropping back in coverage, because the dude that's the DC invented that crap.

MY GOD he watches film, it's possible at any time over the middle, maybe we should blame the play call but the OC makes that call in that SITUATION with the understanding Kurt won't do EXACTLY WHAT HE DID.

He lost a guy, in a coverage that is so so so typical for that team to pull and there is NO EXCUSE FOR IT, NONE.

It would be better there if he just threw it away a couple times, anything but TURNING THE BALL over THERE.

If it was tipped as Ben's were then, THEN he'd have an excuse but it was not.

IT"S ON HIM TO READ THAT CRAP, all we hear is how he's the master of READING THAT CRAP.

If he can't read that then put Matt in, he can not read that just as well.

Our defense held the Pitt offense to 1 point less then there regular season average. Keep in mind that Willie Parker was injured and only played in 11 games this year.

During the playoffs the Steelers averaged 29 ppg. Our D held them to 9 less today and even added 2 points of their own. Our defense held them to less points than the vaunted Ravens and Chargers defenses did. The defense shut down Parker and harassed Ben all night, they're not the sole reason why we lost.
Overall our defense did do a great job, but never really gave Pittburgh a 4 and out. Is that Kurt Warner's fault? Yes, the defense was tired, but only because they weren't able to shut down the Steelers offense and that led to long drives. Again is that Kurt Warner's fault?

We were only up by 3 and should have been up by more if not a horrible turnover that was a 14 point swing. Not to mention AGAIN that we scored exactly 7 points through 3 qtrs.

Blaming everything on the defense is a cheap out and is incredibly weak.
Agree, but blaming Kurt Warner for just one mistake isn't either. He did an overall excellent job against the best defense in the league. I'm surprised that we didn't go to Fitz more in the first half. Was that by plan tho?

The announcers even commented that normally that blitzer blites instead of laying back for the Int. Any pass in that area is really dangerous anyways. It was probably a bad play call to begin with and he probably should have audibled. He made a mistake and you're right it's inexcusable, but against the Steelers defense making one mistake in the whole game isn't so bad (granted it was a HUGE mistake).

From what we've seen of Matt, we don't have to worry about Pittsburgh's final drive. We'd probably lose this game by multiple scores.:mulli:

It goes beyond huge into the epic category.

It's so very basic, if you're the QB the one thing you have to say to yourself is I have 3 on the board, I want 7 but I can't lose the three.

Kurt isn't wired that way, the thinks 7 all the time first, a leader, a QB puts the team first and says we must not lose this opportunity to be tied, I can't throw a pass I'm not very very sure of, no squeezing crap in and whatever that was it was always going to be a squeeze in deal.

The instructions from the sideline would be don't throw it unless you're sure, he threw it and obviously he wasn't right.

It's on him and it was like I said beyond huge.

I didn't blame Warner squarely for the loss. He made an untimely mistake. It happens.

The offense as a whole (not all Warner's fault) struggled through the first qtr and were decent the 2nd and 3rd qtr. The defense struggled through the first qtr and the last drive but held their own during the rest of the time giving us a chance to win the game. Unfortunately we couldn't get pressure on Ben with our front four and our lack of depth in the secondary was exposed.

Mistakes were made by the team on both sides of the ball. We were nowhere near perfect and still had a shot to win. It would have been a true team win if they cam through but it ended up a true team loss when they didn't.

It sucks but its been a helluva ride

Whatever, I'm done with you.

I root for my team and I don't pin losses on other parts of the team, I pin the blame where it belongs.

Obviously you don't or you'd admit the defense was mostly at fault for being tired. :bang:

Agreed! And I agree that the defense was tired at the end as well, but that's because they gave up long drives. And that's not Kurt Warner's fault. I think we are pretty much in agreement on about everything tho.

I can only hope the Cardinals sign Warner to two more years. One bad read in almost 100 pass attempts over the course of 3 playoff games. You have to be stirring the pot. You don't really believe what you're writing do you?

Honestly the difference in the game is their guys tackle, ours don't.

Repeatedly we couldn't get Ben down, couldn't get Holmes down. They for the most part got our guys down save the catch and run by Fitz.

We could have won the game but we didn't make the plays when we had to.

Conrad, you need to step back off the ledge... your Warner bashing is reaching Epic fail proportions. Dude is a warrior...we lived by the pass( all the way to the Super Bowl) and we died by the pass. Warner deserves all the praise in the world with an overmatched Haley calling plays and really an overall inexperienced coaching staff that showed there shortcomings. With all of that Warner still had us in a position to win a Super Bowl. I do not believe there is another qb in the league that could have done what he did here. The Cards and the fans owe a big salute to #13. Most realize this.

I'm not blaming Warner but your comment is not holding water. As Conrad said the entire point in a zone blitz is they bring someone and drop someone else. In this case they brought someone and dropped Harrison. That's what Pittsburgh does they confuse you. Kurt got confused and didn't expect harrison to be there. Great play by them horrible tackling by us.

Huge play, we still could have won it but it made it much tougher it was a huge swing.

I thought Kurt played an overall great game but I don't think anybody was really shocked that he threw a pick six more the timing and how crushign it was. You have to take that with Kurt, with thegood will come some bad.

You don't think Pittsburgh's defense and our inability to run had anything to do with that as well?

Actually to start the second half the Cards were running the ball just fine. Edge had 3 carries on the first drive for 9,7,and 3 yards. But then we threw two 2 yard passes and had the overturned fumble ruling for an incomplete pass. The Steelers drove for another FG making the score 20-7.

Understandably, the Cards ran the ball only 3 times after that.

The Cards lost the way they did all year. A costly turnover, giving up a big pass play ( eg the 40 yard Holmes catch) and the haunting problem of allowing opponents to convert on third and long.

They were in the game for the same reasons they won all year. Tough run defense and an unstoppable passing offense.

The only thing different was that our kick coverage units played well.

No Conrad, your opinion of Warner is what is a failure. He deserves kudos not the blame you want to heep on him by your long time bias against the guy. Get a clue. I could give a rip if your insulted.

Opinons are never failures because they're based on preferences and as such are subjective.

And it's you're not your.

"A belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof."

I think your understanding of an opinion is a little off. Once positive knowledge is established, an opinion can indeed be wrong. Your preference can never be wrong to you but your opinion can be a failure because it can be baseless.

Yes, and your opinion is based on faulty logic...but then you can't fix stupid. Any one can realize what Kurt Warner has mean't to the Cardinals this season and the NFL. But as you say in other threads he is not your cup of tea.

Dude your'e like a Kurt commercial.

Fitz had no turnovers this game, zero, your guy had two.

One was a 14 point swing.

The D wasn't on the field when that transpired.

He bears SOME accountability for this loss, Fitz bears zero, none, zilch, nada and if you're guy retires do you still follow this team?

Yes or no?

C-Rad.... c'mon man. Warner moved our offense and put up numbers NO OTHER Qb even came close to against this Steeler defense. He made a bad throw at a very inopportune time. It happens... He played GREAT the rest of the way...
No, how 'bout tackling a slow and gassed LB/DE instead of letting him run 100 f'n yards!!!!! :bang:

Difference in the game: officiating

No for the most part the refs were ok. There were a few calls both ways to be honest.

IN the end we lost because they made plays when they had to, we didn't.

Big picture, Warner AND the defense played well enough to win. Can you take certain plays and point to them as failures or breakdowns? Yeah, neither played the perfect game.

Tackle that guy in the INT return anywhere in a 99 yard span and the game is won. That, to me, is the most frustrating part of that game--not that the pick was thrown or the Steelers drove for a TD to close the game, not the officiating. One tackle that they should have been able to make--even if it was on the 1 yard line and we win.

arrgh.

Yes which is why in another post I said the Steelers deserved to win. I think the officiating was awful. I was listening to NFL on Sirius today Adam Schein and John Righins said it was terrible and we got the short end of the stick and Howard Cross said that out of the 11 times we were flagged at most six we legit and deserved. The Steelers played a hell of a game, and deserved to win and Big Ben just proved himself to be an elite generation QB last night, but let's face it we got jobbed big time by the officials.
