They are going to be a trendy pick ALL offseason. And, that is something I actually prefer. Let them get all the meaningless preseason hype.

I predict that we open the season next year in SF. That's going to be a fun game.

Trent Dilfer won a SB, enough said. Alex Smith is efficient enough to make plays. He did beat your team several times.

His career passer rating was 70.2, the year he "Won" the Super Bowl it was 76. In his glorious Super Bowl victory he threw for 153 yards. This guy drops how he won a ring into almost every monologue he gives on ESPN like he was freakin Joe Montana. Ray Lewis ought to punch his lights out.

Really? This statement is blatantly absurd. I'm sure Dilfer is praying that people will leave it at "enough said" but no one really will. Instead they will go on to say a lot more and its likely to be something to the effect of, "which superbowl winning QB in history did the least to cause his team to win a superbowl?" Guess who is certain to be at the very top of anyone's list who has even the slightest degree of football acumen. Sadly for Dilfer, almost no one is going to leave it at "enough said."

I'd like to point out that next year WE should have Cody Brown so it seems to me that's like US having (2) 1st RD. picks!
One clarification. Brown was the 63rd pick in the draft. Him coming back would be like us have two 2nd round picks. But still, unless Kurt retires (which I think he will) we have to be considered the favorite to win the west until we are knocked off.

Every picked the 49ers or Seahawks this season and last. Next season will be no different and neither will the results.

And Emmitt Smith won 3 and couldn't even get out a full sentence of proper english as an ESPN analyst.

LMAO.

As someone else said. This is the kind of stuff losers hang their hat on. I am just glad we don't have to light a candle to inane predictions like this to get us through a long cold offseason.

Being a perennial playoff team is nice :)

I meant the Ravens won a SB with Dilfer so we don't excetly need a great QB to win it all. You can't tell me Ben Rothlisberger was a great QB when he won that SB either. As matter of fact, he choked in that game and the Steelers still won.

Vegas, baby, yeah!
Meh. Making predictions on who will win next seasons division is a bit premature. One or two injuries in the pre-season can completely change the outlook. Offseason plays a big role.

Dilfer is an idiot.

I predict Alex Smith is on the cover of next year's Madden. Both are just as likely to happen.

of the NFC West that I wish Goodell would move BOTH teams or MOVE US to another division. Beating our division counts for nothing if we have no contention. The real teams are Denver, San Diego, New Orleans, Atlanta, The East team in Dal or Phil Eagles (how ironic to be stuck with playing the loser again in 2010), the North team (Green Bay), that determines your season. You can't beat any of them, you're undeserving in the league. I urge do not buy or renew your tickets."

This one was my favorite. We are nobodys...that count for nothing...lol They are complaining how bad our division is, and want to be moved to another division....lol. YOU CANT WIN THIS DIVISION... you really want to play those teams you mentioned twice!

Predicting next year's division winner is inane... now to answer the question he was asked: Yes, I would agree the the 49ers are the best non-playoff team in the NFC. Hopefully we will continue to build on our progress and keep the wolves at bay.

Back then, Ben was a good QB (but certainly better than Dilfer ever was). Now he is one of the top QBs in the NFL, as much as it sickens me to admit. They were a complete team, which earned them two SBs the last four years.

I know what you are implying here in that you're trying to compare your defense to that of the 2000 Ravens. Their defense was so good, that if you scored 10 points on them, it was a small victory. That team was an aberration. History shows you still need a good QB to win the SB. Think Brady, the Mannings, Roethlisberger, Warner, etc.

Your defense is good but not stellar. This is why SF needs to be a more balanced team before they can even be mentioned in the same breath with the 12 playoff teams. And you continuing to ride Alex's back is kind of hilarious IMO. This is the same guy that was so bad, he was benched several times and had to restructure his contract to stay on the team. So you are in a very small room of people who think he's the savior, when in fact, hes closer to Drunkenmiller (sp) than Montana. I perused your 49ers MB and they echo my sentiments. Further, as long as you have the Yorks running the show, I don't think you'll get that much needed offense anytime soon.

A next season prediction is meaningless. What happens if one of their stud players (and they've got a couple) gets injured in the off-season? What happens if their draft picks go sour? What happens if...if...if....

When you have to look past this year, you need something to bring a smile to the faces of the fans. Once again, the 49'ers have to look past this year. So do the Seahawks -- and, don't forget, a lot of analysts picked them to win our division this year.

Let the babies have their bottle.

Smith is a career loser versus Arizona at 2-3.

As for the Ravens/Giants Super Bowl there were more defensive/special teams TDs than offensive TDs. Could have won a ton of ASFN bucks on that one.

Probably the all time classic QB match up in a Super Bowl: Trent Dilfer vs Kerry Collins. :p

Good job, Dillhole. SF hasn't had a winning record in 7 years, yet next season they will magically become one of the two best teams in the NFC? LMAO!

The teams who either have a bye or could get one this season are quarterbacked by:

Peyton Manning
Philip Rivers
Drew Brees
Kurt Warner
Brett Favre
Donovan McNabb
Tony Romo

Now add Alex Smith to that list and tell me which name doesn't belong. (Though to be fair, Romo doesn't belong either).

History says you most likely will not win a Lombardi trophy without a great QB. The ones that have: Plunkett, Theismann, McMahon, Rypien, Dilfer & Brad Johnson. All those teams were playing on phenominal teams on 1 side of the ball.

Blowhard if you think the current crew the Niners have can win it all with Smith as QB, you're living in fantasy land!!!

Okay.

So if Mr. Dilfer says this, and Niners are a better team than their record, is the NFC West REALLY the weakest division in football ?

I guess not. Next season is going to be a great one. The Cardinals, Niners rivalry will be even more crazy if that is even possible.

But, that is all future talk. We got work to do this year.

The only one riding the bench right now is Matt "bust" Leinart. I cannot wait until Warner retires so Patrick Willis can pick on lil Matty for the next couple of seasons.

Smith is putting up comparable numbers to the likes of Palmer, Flacco, Ryan, VY etc...That is very respectable considering that he didn't have a chance to practice with the 1st teamers for almost half a season. This offense is still brand spankin new. what did you expect? Raye is a first year 49ers OC, Morgan is a 2nd year guy, Crabtree missed the whole damn offseason and the first 5 games, VD is breaking out for the first time. Gore is the only consistent offensive player that we have. You can't expect all these guys to just jump in and start scoring 4 TDs a game.

With that said, as long as we are in the NFC West, we will be at least 4-2 each season then we'll just need to start winning those close games outside of the division. We have one of the youngest teams in the league and they will learn how to pack away close games soon. As long as the Cards, Rams and Seahawks are still here...the Niners have ZERO worries.
