Lucasfilm's only relevance in the past several years has been Rango, so not such a big deal. :D

I just posted an update that may make your jaw drop. Not a hoax. It has been announced by both companies.

Makes sense seeing as Disneyland and Disney World all have Star Wars themed areas and rides.

it's on deadline, which means it's legit.

Star Wars 7? What an epic disaster that will be.

No hoax. This is for real. Unbelievable news. I think this confirms George was ready to move on and Disney can hopefully interject new blood into writing the franchise. I am absolutely thrilled because I never wanted Star Wars to end.

I also think there is some behind the scenes agreements. Kathleen Kennedy was hired to ensure continuity and no silly reboot business and stuff like that from Disney. So, it sounds like the creative force behind much of what George did is still in place.

Also, George is still going to get paid. I didn't see anything on him signing over all the merchandising rights.

Disney owns Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar. Can't wait to see Star Wars vs. the Avengers crossover products, as well as Star Wars toys in the next Toy Story movie.

I just watched the interview. Lucas has written story board treatments for movies 7, 8 and 9. So, there was some truth to the fact that he had a vision beyond the 2 trilogies. That is fantastic IMO because Lucas's vision was never the problem. It was the writing and lack of input from other writers. Also, sounds like he had lots of other ideas as well.

So, with the movies moving forward, I wonder what this means for the TV series? Will that move forward?

I am truly excited and if Disney and Kathleen Kennedy do their best to get good writers there is no reason this can't be a good thing.

Now that Star Wars is in this Disney universe...they should knock on Joss Whedon's door to do some some Star Wars writing. Joss always said he viewed his character from Firefly as what would happen if you followed Han Solo's life so to speak.

I don't think we can write off a new Star Wars movie simply because it went to Disney. When Marvel was sold to Disney, you heard another collective moan, but The Avengers is one of the best superhero movies ever. Not saying the new Star Wars will be as good, but I think they have earned a benefit of the doubt.

I'm not sure why there is so much hate for Disney on this thread in the first place.

I don't get the hate either. Sorry, as long as they are not making more Anakin stories this is a positive. I mean are the haters keeping track of the millions of book sales based on new stories? Are they keeping track of the continued Clone Wars show?

So, it's OK to write these stories as long as it's not film? I don't get it. I was happy when Marvel was purchased and look how that has turned out.

The only thing that matters is the writing, directing and acting. If they are committed to finding the best they can with the expertise of ILM now in house? Crap...I can't wait.

I want a 'rogue' squadron movie... Some epic star-fighter combat!!!!

Those are the worst novels in the extended universe...not sure they'd make great movies, it is more about the Jedi than space combat.

I would love to see them adopt some of the stuff from the various novels though. You have a rebirth of Jedi, an alien race that can't be seen in the force, another galactic civil war, the rise of new Sith, the Imperial remnant and all the other mythology we have seen so far in the movies (bounty hunters, smugglers, crime lords, aliens etc).

I am totally with you. I read all the books, DVR the Clone Wars (which is great especially for a "kids" show BTW)...I am not only hoping for Episodes 7-9, I'd love to see them give a movie treatment to the Old Republic stuff too.

I have that! There's also a set of figures with Goofy as Darth and Mickey as Hans Solo. I keep them on display with my miniature Larry Fitzgerald. Minnie as Princess Leia is currently keeping the evil invaders away from Larry.
