Here is a classic:

Ahem...I think my number has been called. Drum roll please.
I hate the Suns. I hate their name, Suns. Why not call them what they really are? The "Phoenix - Media Darlings" or the "Phoenix - Anything to take our mind off the Cardinals".

I hate how they have a direct link between ESPN and their collective penis.

I hate the heat in Phoenix. I hate how people say, "You don't notice it, because it's a dry heat" I hate that everyone there is a "dry stupid"
I hate the way their mascot is a gorilla. Was Chuck-e-Cheese busy? He looks like he should be waving at traffic outside a vacuum cleaner hospital.

I hate Steve Nash. He took the money and ran, and ran, and ran, and ran out of energy every playoff. I hate how someone with such a one sided game can be MVP. I blame the exchange rate. 15 assists must be 30 points 10 rebounds and 3 steals Canadian.

I hate Amare Stodimre. I hate his nickname. STAT, must mean Some Teams Always Tank.

I hate The Matrix, What a great way too sell shoes. Lets nickname him after a Keanu Reeves movie. What, was "My Own Private Idaho" taken? Should have been called The Matrix Revolutions. (Worst sequel ever)

I hate Rajah Bell. I hate how he gets free Taco's for life. I hope he gets the trots for life.

I hate D'antoni. I hate his snarl every time he doesn't get a call. Looks like someone **** in his Cheerios. I hate how he took Nellie Ball and removed any resemblance of defense. He's done for basketball what pantyhose did for fingerbanging. Worked so great for Nellie. I hate how so many teams have been too stupid to figure it out.

I hate the Suns. I hate the Suns. I hate, Hate, HATE the Suns.

That was AWESOME! WOW! Tell us how you feel; you go girl.

HATE? I don't HATE any team. I do strongly dislike players - Kobe, Ginobli, JKidd, Ron Ron, DWade... just to name a few. But teams? Not really... well, OK, I don't like the Lakers. However, if they were to get rid of Kobe and their coach, I wouldn't feel so much animosity towards them.

The Valley so low.
I guessed it was a quote when you said "Here is a classic", but I wish you had put it in quotes--I got a little worried as it went on.

It is a little witty.

I have to say, with some shame, that I just realized, 10 seconds ago, that the Mavs are from the same city as the Cowgirls. Sure, I knew the names, but I just did not think of them at the same time--the Mavs were always good, with Nellie, never bribed the refs high enough to win, none of this 'America's Team' garbage.... Sorry I'm so slow. Oh, god, the Mavs have had s*** rubbed onto them forever. I'll bet they attend each other's games, attend each others' classes in dope-dealing and dirty play, etc. Finally, a truly great reason to hate the Mavs!

I think the Suns have the longest rivalry with the Lakers dating back to their Showtime teams. They were always the benchmark for the Suns. Kobe has fueled a rivalry that might have grown weak. I don't like to use the word "hate," but I think the Suns and Lakers fans have come close to this relationship.

San Antonio has been the benchmark team in the west for many years, but I think their is some respect in this relationship minus the antics of Ginobli and Bowens.

There is also a growing heated rivalry with the Mavs which is natural because their fans must know they would probably have a couple NBA Championships if they had kept Nash. Also I'm sure there is natural rivalry between Dirk and Nash even though they are friends.

Hatred, most of the time, comes with envy and frustration. So, Suns fans had reason to hate the Lakers but not the other way round.

I don't hate Mavs nor Spurs. I have no reason.

I like to think that it is a rivalry but the Lakers fans never cared about the Suns except for a few years here and there. It wasn't much of a rivalry for them.

I would have to agree Suns fans have viewed the Lakers more as a rival than vice versa. However Kobe has done much to develop a much more reciprocal and equal dislike among the fans in recent years.

In regards to the Mavs, many of their fans are arrogant without an NBA Championship to show for it. The Spurs have at least been there.

The deal with LA is always going to be important in Phoenix the same way it is for San Francisco. LA is relatively close and has typically had very good teams: Dodgers, Lakers, USC, UCLA, etc. Mostly this has been one way, although LA fans do get pretty unhappy when their past dominance is challenged by the desert upstarts. By contrast, there is no "natural rivalry" with Dallas nor are there many Dallas residents in Phoenix or Phoenix residents in Dallas.

From what I can tell, the hatred of the Suns is Dallas is totally disproportionate to the feeling about the Mavs in Phoenix. If I was to guess, I'd say the difference is that Mavs fans have dilusions of grandure and the fact that Suns distract from that illusion.

Few Suns fans will have any illusions about how hard it will be to get to the finals this season. The team is confident, but modest and I think it carries of to their fans.

The Mavs have been good longer and I think their fans have developed a sense of entitlement. They despirately want to believe this is FINALLY their year and hate the fact that so many people in the national media aren't convinced.

It looks like hysteria is a cover for self doubt.

Exactly.

Also we are the ghost of NBA Championships past... if the Mavs had kept Steve Nash. They cannot erase this thought no matter how much they want to spin it.

I think the Mavs are a really good team with possibly the best player at any position of this entire era. The road to the Finals certainly appears to go through Dallas.

I think the Mavs are built around one great player and a Frankenstein roster. It's legitimately 10 deep, but you'd be hard pressed to point to another player outside of Josh Howard that you'd want on your team.

The Suns are built around the best point guard in 20 years and two very good players. It is legitimately 8 deep (when Kurt Thomas is healthy), and you have to admire how the five other players have found solid roles in support.

The Western Conference finals will probably be a battle between how well the Suns starters can perform against Dallas' deep rotation. It's a fairly even battle.

*shrug*

I didn't think there was much more to it.

Haha.

I wonder where "Hoopy" is as well.

Oh I'm here Boise. You didn't think I'd let you guys off the hook after ANOTHER loss to a top team didja???

By the way kids, the board you are viewing is considered an idiot wannabe board for casual fans.

Go to dallasbasketball.com and join your brothers MyHouse3 and SunsOwnsMavs in the lively discussions on the Suns. If you ask me there are way too many Suns threads. Why so many? Probably because there are only 2 teams left of quality in the NBA. Congrats you are the distant other...;)

As the year rolls on it is becoming more and more evident you are Mavs 2003 (with no Nickie Quickie - god rest his basketball soul). I will say it again...the road stops for the Suns at the first Defensive matchup.

Don't be such a tool. You weren't around anywhere when we manhandled the Spurs, were you?

There's a lot of that going around. There are a couple of other team boards where the fans sound much happier when we lose than they are when their own teams win -- you have a mental image of them jumping for joy and applauding. One Laker board in particular devotes 50% of their posts to analyzing "what's wrong with Phoenix." In some perverse way I guess it's flattering. At any rate, it's pretty amusing.

Second night of a back to back after a close game is always a good excuse to use. . . . but a win is a win, and you beat the Spurs convincingly regardless of the situation. Don't know what happened last night though.

I'm new to this forum. it's obvious with my name who i am a fan of. All i am going to say is given the performance of both the suns and the mavs respectively....some type of rivalry is going to emerge. It's clear that the biggest rival of the mavs has been the spurs. That is still the team that the mavs look up to given the titles. It should also be mentioned that to this day the mavs still haven't won a division title over the spurs in the mark cuban era. The mavs had that great start in the 2003 season with steve nash. That team beat every team it was supposed to and put up great offensive numbers. But they lost almost every game to the top teams in the west by close margins because they couldn't convert late in the final mins of games at either ends. Despite having a 7 or 8 game lead on the spurs that year, the spurs came back and won the division due to a tiebreaker. It's clear that this mavs team is much better. But they still have to finish strong and keep teams like phoenix, SA, and Utah at bay. There will be no pushovers in the WC come playoff time. Even the T-wolves have played the mavs very tough. They also beat the suns a few days ago.
