While Dockett was doing his little Internet TV gig with Ocho Cinco in Miami Jurecki was able to interview Docket.

Dockett stated that within the next 30-45 days he and the Cards will start negotiating. I believe Docket when he says this because why else would he have a time frame unless the team gave him one. Dockett also said that he is very optimistic that something will get done or at least see that negotiations are going well enough to show up to offseason workouts this year.

30 to 40 days????

Don't we have a ton of decisions to make by March 1st? I guess we need to get that stuff done before we talk to him??

I hope its true, but to play devil's advocate, he could be saying that just to put pressure on the Cards to come to the table.

It's my understanding he has two years left on his contract I was hoping they were going to hold the line and not negotiate anybody's contract until they're in the final year. Maybe they're making an exception to take advantage of the uncapped year I don't know. I do believe as others have stated he is deserving I just don't like the door opening for other people to complain before they're in their final year.

What's the org. stance on this? They were adament about not redoing contracts before 1 yr. left.

Allthough I agree that is an antiquated way to conduct their business, maybe the light has finally gone off for them. Not a second too soon.

I think extending Dockett is absolutely critical. He is the heart and soul of our defense.

They, well I should say the media reported frequently during the Blodin fiasco that the Cardinals are taking the stance that they will not renegotiate contracts until players are in their final year. At least that was the mantra that kept coming out of the media I could be wrong but it was my understanding, that was going to be their policy going forward.

well -- in 40 days the big wave of free agency will be past -- the Cards will know where they stand on Dansby and anybody they bring in to replace him --

timing probably makes sense

Boldin's exit could hurt Cardinals' moraleAbout the Author

The odds remain strong that Anquan Boldin's days with the Cardinals are numbered. "He'll be 30 years old (in October), he's been injured a lot and he hasn't been as productive the last two years," said one team insider of the mounting evidence suggesting that the team will try hard to deal the former face of the franchise. "In addition, (WR Steve) Breaston has breakaway speed that Anquan doesn't have, and Early Doucet finally showed late in the year that he could be an effective No. 3 receiver." All that said, though, there would be a major downside should Boldin split the scene — the negative effect his departure would have on a locker room with more than a few players who, like Boldin, have major contract concerns. "He still commands tremendous respect, and his influence would be missed," the insider said. "The perception that the Cardinals were too cheap to take care of him, among players like Darnell Dockett, is something the team would be forced to deal with."

---Thus the answer to why the team is suddenly changing their stance on renegotiating deals.

I don't think the team is too cheap to keep Boldin at this point, they just know he may have more value in a trade, at least after this season.

It's the "perception" that the insider is talking about, is among the team mates. The Cardinals FO may have all the valid reasons in the world (to mosve Boldin), but it's also a reason why their in discussions now instead of in two years, with Dockett. It won't be overlooked by Boldins team mates.

That's a change in direction from the FO's dealings in the past (Re-working non-expiring contracts).

Yes I agree. And I hate to say it, but Dockett is far more important to appease NOW than Boldin was to appease last season.

Could we be resigning Dockett this offseason because the FO knows that once we trade Boldin were right back to the "cheap" label? If we resign Dock this year too it kind of evens the pie.

A-Dub was telling 9-0 to tone it done. A-Dub showed how to negotiate with the Cards. I cannot see them (FO) changing in mid-stream to the way they want to handle contracts. They are modeling themselves after the Steelers, and except for qb's, the Steelers don't renegotiate contracts until the last year of the current deal.

They did say that, and no it was not a made up media thing. They also put a "BUT" at the end of that statement of only redoing contacts with 1 year left. They said they are only going to re-do deals with one year left expect for extenuating circumstances. I assume uncapped year is extenuating. I also assume that would mean if they needed to do it for cap purposes.
