This was prior to Saturdays game but I find it kind of curious. I can't really even deny whathe is saying but its pretty scathing IMO.

From Bordow's Saturday column...

Defensive tackle Darnell Dockett doesn't believe the Cardinals will ever be the prom king. In fact, Dockett turned questions about Arizona's new-found popularity into a rant against the team's fans.

"I know how they are," Dockett said. "They love you one minute and hate you the next. Honestly, I don't think we have a big fan base. Anytime another team can come on the road and fill half the stadium with their fans, that ain't a good fan base.

"I think we got one of the weakest fan bases in football. ... We're the type of team where I wouldn't be surprised if (our fans) sold their tickets on eBay to Atlanta fans. That's all you got to know about our fans. They're with you on the highs but they're not with you on the lows."

What Dockett fails to grasp - in addition to the fact it probably isn't wise to rip your fans just before a home playoff game - is that the Cardinals have deserved the enmity and empty seats. One winning season in 20 years doesn't engender a lot of loyalty.

How did you like us after Saturdays game DD?;)

I guess I can see his point but come on, not where with you on the lows? Look at the history of this franchise, that there are ANY people in the stands after all this losing is a testament to the fans being there during the lows because MOST of the time it has been the lows, the highs have been few and far between.

Does make it that much more special when we win like we did Saturday.

Doesn't he have some stupid unsportmanlike penalty to commit?

He has been on too many losing teams to talk about the fans.

It's a sad truth that a lot of us diehards don't like to hear because it doesn't necessarily apply to us.

He's right.

he shouldn't have said that...yes i agree with him partially (look at my most recent thread) but there are some like the ones who post on here who are die hard fans.

He kind of is. But he is a knucklehead for saying so.

If it came Bickley for example, it would be written off because he has said it so many times, that people just ignore him.

It won't make him popular with the casual fans, but I think a lot of diehards won't care what he says, but will judge him how he produces on the field. (see Edgerrin James)

Visions of DD jumping the block and Rollie running for six makes me forgive him.

LOL - after 9 posts out of 10 reads? Three days after the column came out? Is there a link I should be made aware of?

I wasn't on the site all of last week so if I am regurgitating info let me know.

Luckily DD's play is a lot better than his philosophical ramblings.

He's right. It was frustration from the Minny game where we had as many Viking fans as Cards fans in the building, and it was loud for our offense. Then, in the Seattle game, there were several times the crowd booed very loudly on dropped passes or whatever.

Diehards are diehards, and they leave their heart and soul in the stands. The other half of the seats are filled with other teams fans and fairweather/lackadaisical fans.

You guys are a rare breed for sure. How many times has this franchise relocated and NOT succeeded? all of them? Of course they're going to have a terrible fan base, they've been selling a lousy product for decades.

I personally am not a fan of Coca-Cola. Sure it's bottled in my home state, but I think it's a crappy product. What's the difference?

Are you trying to ask why watching sports and brand loyalty aren't the same thing?

Could he be right, sure, should he have said it, not a chance, in fact it was about as dumb a thing he could have said.

Its called marketing and this team is trying to get those fence sitters to come to games. Calling them losers and such isnt going to do that.

no, i'm making a point that they are in fact the same thing. At the end of the day it's entertainment (ok, coke was a bad example, should have said Jimmy Eat World or something more entertainment based, my bad). If I'm never entertained, how can i be a fan?

I was actually praising most of you guys for being around for so long. I'm new, and REALLY trying to be a Cards fan. I've been trying for something like 10yrs now.

Okay, I have to break my negativity ban for this one little post: EF DD!!! You know, if you said we have a great base of some of the most hard-core fans in the league, but the rest of the area is full of fair-weather fans, then fine. You know what, DD? You didn't do that. You gave us ALL a collective slap in the face, so I give you a big FU!

Maybe he thinks the fans are motivated like the players are...tell them they suck and they will beat you senseless...tell them they are great and they don't show up to the Minny game or play/yell well.

:)

He comes off as a bit arrogant - these comments from the guy that commits bonehead celebration and PF penalties?

A BIT? Just A BIT? The dude has a MONSTER ego, enormous.

But it's part of what fuels his fire. He's a yappy SOB, but I dig his play.

good fans boo their teams too. you think the giants, eagles, bears, packers never hear boos from their fans when they underachieve? boos are not indicative of a good fanbase. lack of boos may be indicative of an ignorant koolaid-infused fanbase.

I'm not going to argue that, but when the stadium is half full of Vikings fans the week before, the people who weren't there shouldn't be the ones booing the next week, IMO.
