Tilda Swinton is PERFECT in any movie with "strange" in the title.

Agreed. I've liked her in most of the movies I've seen her in, but she is a strange looking woman.

(I thought she was great in "Constantine.")

Rachel McAdams in Talks to Star in Marvel's Doctor Strange

http://www.eonline.com/news/673466/...ms-rumored-to-star-in-marvel-s-doctor-strange

Has Doctor Strange found its female lead?

Rumor has it the studio has offered Rachel McAdams the starring role opposite of Benedict Cumberbatch in the highly anticipated Marvel film, which is slated for a Nov. 4, 2016 release.

However, no official casting announcement regarding McAdam's character has been made just yet.

Thus far there's been a wall of secrecy surrounding the future film, save for the fact that Scott Derrickson has signed on to direct with Jon Spaihts penning the script.

Trailer to be released on Kimmel a week from today.

It's about time. Never into this character but I am so intrigued to see how this fits in the Marvel Universe they have built up to this point.

Dr Strange was small time even with comics.....I remember way back in the day they were even inconsistent in regards to when the comics were released.

of every character in the comic book universe... Dr Strange should benefit from the big screen the most..............Strange is epic and comics never could contain him.......I am excessively stoked for this one.

Spot on, well said. This is very exciting that the Master of the Mystic Arts is finally getting the treatment he deserves.

George Takei Calmly Dismantles All of Marvel’s Excuses for Its Doctor Strange Casting

http://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/new...-doctor-strange-casting/ar-BBsAvql?li=BBnba9J

National treasure George Takei is going in hard on Marvel. The social media icon took to his Facebook account to post about Marvel's casting of Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One in the upcoming Doctor Strange film. He initially focused on the backpedaling done by Marvel in which they cast blame on the Chinese market as their reasoning to avoid association with Tibet. "So let me get this straight. You cast a white actress so you wouldn’t hurt sales … in Asia? This backpedaling is nearly as cringeworthy as the casting. Marvel must think we’re all idiots," writes Takei. "Marvel already addressed the Tibetan question by setting the action and the Ancient One in Kathmandu, Nepal, in the film. It wouldn't have mattered to the Chinese government by that point whether the character was white or Asian, as it was already in another country. So this is a red herring, and it's insulting that they expect us to buy their explanation. They cast Tilda because they believe white audiences want to see white faces. Audiences, too, should be aware of how dumb and out of touch the studios think we are."

In the comments, Takei argues that the casting is representative of a deeper systemic problem of casting white actors in Asian roles:

"To those who say, "She an actress, this is fiction," remember that Hollywood has been casting white actors in Asian roles for decades now, and we can't keep pretending there isn't something deeper at work here. If it were true that actors of Asian descent were being offered choice roles in films, these arguments might prevail. But there has been a long standing practice of taking roles that were originally Asian and rewriting them for white actors to play, leaving Asians invisible on the screen and underemployed as actors. This is a very real problem, not an abstract one. It is not about political correctness, it is about correcting systemic exclusion. Do you see the difference?"

He also addressed various reader rebuttals. For one, he wants to point out that the idea of "color-blind casting" (that casting should occur without regard to a person's race or ethnicity) only works if there were equity in Hollywood. The end result here is simply that there are fewer actors of Asian descent getting major studio roles.

The "Ancient One" is a title...which is passed from one to another over the ages.... gender, nationality...all meaningless

I am not a tilda fan by any means...really not a fan,....and personally...hmmm,....I would have tried to cast Chow Yun Fat........ but as far as the movie quality goes, and story accuracy...the nationality or sex of the actor is irrelevant for that specific role.
The Ancient one is not Asian....the ancient one is eternal.

georgie is just looking for another reason to decry foul injustice which he alone actually sees...

Kevin Feige Talks Doctor Strange Ancient One Casting

http://screenrant.com/kevin-feige-doctor-strange-ancient-one-whitewash/

The most recent example of whitewashing in the world of superhero movies is that of Doctor Strange, in which Tilda Swinton was cast as the Ancient One, a character written as an elderly Asian man. While the first reactions to Swinton’s casting were primarily focused on the gender-swap, the attention has now shifted to the origins of the character. Doctor Strange co-writer C. Robert Cargill said this change was made in order to avoid upsetting China, while director Scott Derrickson recently addressed the controversy saying he is “listening and learning.” Still, the discussion surrounding Doctor Strange has continued, and now Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has opened up about this topic.

In an interview with Deadline, Feige addressed the whitewashing controversy as well as the rumors about political motives being behind their casting choice. Feige said it was a creative decision instead of a political one, and they saw this as an opportunity to break a “typical storyline” by gender-swapping the role:

"The casting of The Ancient One was a major topic of conversation in the development and the creative process of the story. We didn’t want to play into any of the stereotypes found in the comic books, some of which go back as far as 50 years or more. We felt the idea of gender swapping the role of The Ancient One was exciting. It opened up possibilities, it was a fresh way into this old and very typical storyline. Why not make the wisest bestower of knowledge in the universe to our heroes in the particular film a woman instead of a man?"
