Go SUNS Go
I don't mean to cause trouble with this topic, but something has been bothering the heck out of me. Everyday for nearly a month it seems I see the same damn headline for a story on the front page. And every damn time I keep assuming it's a headline for the Suns, even when I know it’s not. No matter how many times I see it, I still have to double check thinking it can’t possibly be an article for any team but the Suns.
You've all seen it. It says "History in the making." I've seen it a hundred times, and every time I think, "what other team could they possibly be referring too?"
It has to be the Suns, right? Nash going for his second MVP? Marion leading the league in double doubles? Suns are the highest scoring team in the NBA? Suns leading the league in 3 pointers? Suns on their way to a championship? Etc, etc…
It has to be the Suns, right? Because what other Arizona team has a history of winning and more importantly is winning right now?
Is it the Coyotes hockey team? I don't really follow hockey but I know they didn't come close to making the playoffs.
Is it the Diamondbacks? I'm pretty sure they're not making a run to a championship any time soon.
Well that only leaves one other team. When the Suns are breaking records and have the 4th best record in the entire NBA, led by the league MVP, surely they can't be referring to a perennial loser like the Cardinals with a headline like, "History in the Making," can they?
How silly would that be? I mean the Cardinals have been to the playoffs one time in the 18 years they've been in Arizona and the Suns have only missed the playoffs twice during the past 18 years? Right? The Suns were in the WCF last year and the Cardinals won the 10th pick in the draft lottery (so to speak)?
So the article must be about the Suns, right? WRONG!!!
I know Cardinal fans won't believe me if I say that this post isn't meant to be inflammatory. I just feel that headline (which I have to endure week after week, as I keep hoping it's an article praising the Suns "real" accomplishments, VS. Cardinal fans highly imaginative dreams - and yes, I know the article is mainly about the draft) is a slap in the face to a perennial winner like the Suns.
All the Suns do is WIN, WIN and WIN and we can't get a stinking article praising their winning ways???? Instead we get 50 stories in a row about how this Cardinals season is going to be different from the rest, while the Suns continue to "actually make history?"
I'm tired and it's 1:30am in the morning and I'm just sick of seeing that bogus headline for a losing team, while the Suns are shredding the NBA...
Maybe I'm totally alone here on this and I'm being irrational. I understand Cardinals fans have had it rough and just finally want a winner. And that's great. I hope this is the year.
However, as a proud Suns fan who is supporting a team that is currently playing and winning games RIGHT NOW, that headline has been rubbing me the wrong way. Because the Suns are playing great ball and this (legitimately) could be their year. The Cardinals shouldn't be associated with any history in the making statement just yet, anyhow. Come on, they aren't even playing right now.
Can the Suns get just a little bit of respect here?
Sorry for venting. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.
I’m sure I will regret this in the morning when I return.
