Well, at least this puts an end to the silly "Boldin for Porter" trade suggestions.

You will all know if we are even interested in him very soon. Because he was cut we dont have to wait until the start of FA March 5th.

Although I highly doubt he is on our radar. But Wiz does know him(dont knwo if he left with a good or bad impression of him though) and Porter and Haggans are pretty good friends to this day.

I think he would be an excellent pickup, he and Haggans were excellent together on the Steelers (I know that was a few years ago) and Porter is one year removed from a 17.5 sack season (which I would guess is more than all our LBs combined) and last year had 9 sacks. I'm all for it.

I like the idea of bringing him in, but I feel that we need to groom the youngins like W. Davis and C. Brown. Both have tremendous upside and Porter is going to cost a large chunk of change.

I think he would fit well attitude wise with Dockett and Haggans and the young guys could be worked in as they get better and keep Porter a bit more "fresh" as the games and season wears on........

If he comes cheap, bring him in. He's turning 33 in March.

Agreed. Put him in the Bertrand Berry role.

Here is why that wont work. The reason Porter and the coaching staff had a rift which eventual led to his release was the fact that Porter was anger he wasnt getting enough snaps. In fact he even refused to actually come out of the game on multiple situations waving off the player coming in to replace him for a down or two.

For anyone who wants him to come in and play a role they are probably mistaken. Porter doesnt want to be a roll player, he doesnt want to be the new nickel pass rusher like Berry. He doesnt want to help the young guys take away his snaps.

Exactly. The guy wants to play and the only reason I say do this is because we still don't know what we have in Cody Brown. The guy still hasn't played an NFL down at OLB. He's barely practiced there. And he's not even the only guy we have concerns about. Will Davis showed flashes but not enough to prove anything. As much as I think Stevie Baggs will be good, I don't think he'll tear it up from day 1. He's a DE playing OLB as well and he's NEVER played an NFL down. Porter has the attitude this team may need. Plus if we want the divison next year we NEED a pass rusher. I see him more of an every down player on a 1 year contract and probably splitting time his 2 year (if signed that long).

If he can be had at a reasonable price I'd sign him and plug Haggans into Dansby's spot. With that said, I'd be shocked if the Cards pursue him. Not the teams' style at all IMO.

Adam Schefter:

- Filed to ESPN: LB Joey Porter is back on Miami's roster. Team is not allowed to release him yet. He'll be a dolphin till at least March.

- Joey Porter's return to Miami is the first of many complex salary-cap rules that the league is expected to encounter this offseason.

- Basically, Dolphins did not have enough salary-cap space now to house the acceleration in Porter's contract. Thus, he's still a dolphin.

I would sign him in a minute for two reasons; first the top 8 rule restricts us and secondly with the uncapped year it helps us mitigate the top 8 restriction by front loading him. We need some nasty attitude on this D and he will bring it. It also gives us some wiggle room with Dansby.

So much for that.

We apologize for the temporary delay. Now that you know we are going to release him, please give us any pick and you can have him in a trade.

We will sign him. I will put 5 billions vbookie bucks on it.

Any takers? :D

Seriously though, we will not get a better opportunity to sign a potential playmaker of this caliber on our defense.

Yes, he may very well have given his last hurrah this past season. Yes, he might not be the best addition to our locker room. Yes, we might overpay for him.

But for love of the football gods... if he's interested and we can get him for a decent price, why the hell not.

I believe Wiz understands this and convinces the team sign him.

And that's a good thing, IMO.

Think about it, you think DRC is going to showboat when there is work to be done and Porter is in the house?
