Awesome unbiased article blasting both sides. Great article.
The Brian Waters part of the article made me absolutely disgusted. I work in an industry that has seen more then 75% of its workforce laid off with nothing more then a 2 week comp package. All of them my friends, some of them I have actually let them and their families live in my spare bedroom until they could find a cheaper apartment to live in after they got kicked out. I have bought Christmas gifts and Bday gifts for their kids and said it was from their Fathers and Mothers. Many more things I have done because I could and because they were good hard working people. And Brian Waters wants to start a fund for guys who cant live without their workout bonus check after making 320k+ the year before.
The NFLPA actually sent out a 60+ page booklet to each player on how to get through these troubling times. No joke these are some of the more ridiculous suggestions that show exactly why Brian Waters needs to do what he needs to do -
1. Keep your entourage to a minimum.
2. Only eat out if it is for a business meeting.
3. Do your own laundry.
4. Save the Jewelry, cars, and other expensive toy purchases for later.
Seriously, they had to tell some of these guys this, and there is 60 more pages of this.
Banks hit the nail on the head with this statement - "To that I say, blah, blah, blah. Oh, and from here on out, do us a favor and save your breath, please. There's plenty of blame to go around in this high-stakes money grab, but whenever it ends, I predict both the owners and the players will still be winners in the grand scheme of things. Call it a hunch."
You know who will be hurt during this time, the 25 people who the Jets laid off last month, the 100+ people that will have to take regularly scheduled unpaid furloughs on the Chargers. The security guard who wont need to work during offseason workouts. The list goes on.
