I definitely can see why Dallas traded Luka. They did not want to spend all that money he will be getting on someone who does not take care of his body like he should be doing. We hear the stories of Luka likes to eat and drink, it will be interesting to see how he handles the nightlife in LA. I can see in 3-4 years Luka's body breaking down.

Where’s the popcorn eating emoji? This is super shady. There is more to this story.

There has to because this looks like highway robbery. Think about it for one second. How many times has arguably the best player in the league get traded without his knowledge and without getting the farm back in return?!

100% there were better deals out there for Luka to be had. They didn’t even test the market which means they didn’t want it out there he was getting traded. They wanted him gone ASAP.

Look, I'm not an idiot.

There is no story that makes sense other than the league rigging this as to why Dallas would keep his availability secret. Nobody is stupid enough to not start a bidding war on an asset this valuable.

EVEN if ALL that is true - why would you not start a bidding war for him??

Nobody is stupid enough to do that. This is rigged.

i mentioned a couple few days ago ish might be feeling like he needs to make big moves - crazy big moves - if he had any in mind he now has roughly 72 hours to shock the world

that would involve trading book and/or kd tho

Hang on. David Stern will soon veto this trade for “basketball reasons”.

for all we know luka could've been being a ish head about the new contract he was due - probably wanted the world and everything in it - cuban doesn't roll like that but the wests' do - again im suggesting luka knew and lebron knew

if that's the case the mavs went for ad over draft picks - mavs want to have twin towers with kyrie in the playoffs - that draft pick is going to be garbage this trade was basically straight up

Apparently from what I read on CBS Sports, Luka's wife wanted out of Texas and he'd informed them he wasn't going to sign his next contract there. That explains the why but I have no idea why it was all done hush hush with no other bidders involved. Makes me suspect that Luka asked specifically for a Lakers trade.

He is by every GM and NBA expert's opinion a top 5 player in the league.

Whatever he could possibly ask for, he is justified asking for it.

You know what - Luka could come out publicly and swear on a bible he would only resign with the LA Lakers and do it on prime time TV, and I still guarantee you some team would give up more than the Lakers just did for him for 1 year and a chance to convince him other wise.

I don't care how hard they try to spin this - I am not buying it.

Which is likely why it's kept quiet. Then it becomes a game of chicken once word gets out and his value tanks. If he only wants to be in LA then why would LA give up what they did? The Mavs got out ahead of it. Not many Ishbia's out there willing to pay top dollar as the only bidder in an auction.

Love how many people in here think Luca is a generational super star, your either young and haven't seen them. Or you standards are lower then mine. Doncic is a bottom feeder of past stars

luka and kyrie are a bad fit because two people can't occupy the same space at the same time - hell - suns thought they could get away with three

mavs want the best scorer (kyrie) the best power forward (ad) and gafford at center (who's going to become amazing next to ad)

mavs are doing what the suns try to do - big gamble - huge gamble - 3 year window to bring one home - they may be able to do it - craziest part is we'll definitely see mavs lakers face off in the playoffs

Luka is no longer eligible for the largest contract in NBA history after the trade.

I think he's a generational super star but maybe I define that differently than you. First off, this is a business and Doncic is a legendary cash cow. Secondly, the game has evolved so that offense carries far more weight than defense and Luka IS a generational offensive force.

The stupidest talking head in sports weighs in…

I was reading that as sarcasm. At least I hope it was. One silver lining for the Mavs, when AD and Irving fall apart and the Mavs can just not resign them, they will be way UNDER the aprons.

His value would tank?

The Lakers almost could not have given up less for him.

AD is 32. He has averaged about 50 games per year availability till last year.

Houston and OKC have so many good young players and draft picks they don't even know what to do with them all - and you seriously believe they could not and would not offer more than that pathetic package??

Both those teams would have a VERY VERY legit chance to win a title this year with Doncic. That has a way of helping convince someone to stay - but even if it didn't they have so many assets buying a great chance at the title would be worth it since they have more assets than they can even use currently.
