Doucet will likely get cut, IMO.

I agree. I dont think he is as much a lock as some people do.

What really stood out to me is how Whiz said in the post game show that he wanted to see how long did on special teams.

Looking at the whole situation it likely will be Morey or Long.

Either way, Kansas City Chiefs are sitting back and licking their chops to upgrade their receiving corp.

Morey is likely done. Too one dimensional.

I HIGHLY doubt that. Don't underrate what he brings to our special teams play.

Lance Long is 5'11" 186 lbs

These WR's might disagree with you:

Steve Largent 5'11" 187
Wes Welker 5'9" 185
Deion Branch 5'9" 190
Steve Smith 5'9" 185
Lee Evans 5'10" 195
Joey Galloway 5'11" 195
Marvin Harrison 6'0 185
Desean Jackson 5'10' 175

There are many many more. Plenty of pro bowls and HOF careers from the small guys in that list. So I dont buy it when you guys talk about his size. All the guy does is make plays.

Those guys all have elite speed on the field, supposedly Long ran a 4.38 40 but if he did I guarantee it wasn't eletronically timed and I haven't seen that kind of speed from him so far in the preseason.

I like Long and hope he finds a way to make the team, but Doucet is not getting cut going into his 2nd season. He has a ton of talent, he's just had some unfortunate injuries and a ton of talent in front of him holding him back. Whiz spent a 3rd round pick on him, I don't see him getting dumped so soon.

I'd rather see Onrea Jones on the team than Lance Long. I love Cardinal players that bulldoze defenders after the catch. Like that #81.

True but to be fair there's probably one guy on that list, Largent, that isn't significantly faster than Long. You have to remember Long averaged like 7 YPC in 3 years in the SEC. The longest catch of his college career was 15 yards.

He may be able to play the same position as Breaston, but he doesn't have anywhere near the type of big play ability Breaston does. It just seems to me that Long is more versatile than Doucet but that may be because Doucet has been hurt so much we really haven't gotten a look at if he can play special teams or not.

I have no doubt Doucet is the better WR, it's just that the 5th WR on this club isn't going to play that much so you might keep a more versatile guy. If we keep 6 then yeah Doucet is there.

Branch and Welker aren't that fast. I think top-speed is overrated. WRs need to be good route runners and QUICK (vs FAST). IF you're playing WR in the NFL, you're likely plenty fast enough.

(And I'd rather have Doucet on the team than Long...I'm jus' sayin').

There's a lot to be said for that when we use the short passing game as a run-game substitute, IMO.

...Another reason to like Doucet. He's bigger and stronger than Long, and more likely to stand up to the punishing style of short-passing game the cards (should) employ.

Doucet's not getting cut. He's bveing groomed as Boldin's replacement in the near future. The last spot for WR is going to be between Long and Morey. Long ends up on another team's roster. That's good for him but doesn't affectthe Cards at all. He's not cracking the top 5 in Arizona and would raely see the field. Morey has more value to the team than Long. That's just the way it is.

Doucet is the better slot reciever WHEN Boldin misses time.

Long will get the axe.

Whiz is way too loyal to cut Morey.

Even if it means only keeping 2 QB's I hope we keep Early. Someone else will grab him in no time otherwise.

The only thing that would change my mind is if we sign Q long term.

if we cut Doucet to keep Long it's a big mistake!!! from everything I've heard coming out of camp up until his injury, #80 has had a very good camp. Don't see it happening

But from someone that went to camp, I see it differently.

Obviously Fitz, Boldin, and Breaston are in cement. But the guy who really separated himself at least in the 1st weekend was Urban. After that I would give it to Long. #80 has a lot of work to do. I would put him at #5 in the most optimistic scenario, but more likely #6.

If Lance Long is 5'11" I'm 6'5".

But just mentioning that spare in the same post as the guys above indicates its been really hot in Vegas this Summer.

:D

I think he is. I stood next to him and he was about 6' in cleats. I wonder if we can keep both and keep one less TE?

Welker might not be "fast" but he definitely meets your definition of quick. His short range speed and opening burst is very, very good. I haven't seen much of Branch, but he's not slow. Smith/Harrison/Jackson all have (or had in Marvin's case) elite speed in every aspect of the word, they have the burst, they have the top end, and they all (especially Marvin) can run routes. That's why Desean was a top rookie WR, I thought he would be a bust personally but he practiced his route running throughout the offseason with Rice and it paid off. Galloway..stupid fast.

Yup. That's my point. And, certainly the other guys are quick, too. In fact, I'd say it's their quicks that are more important to their game then their top speed.

Obviously, I'm not saying that really fast guys can't be good receivers, I'm just saying there's more too it then that.

I'd keep Doucet. Lance Long is a great story, and all, but we've yet to see him play against a first string defense. Doucet, while not overflowing with experience, was able to make some tough catches when he filled in last year. If this team wasn't a contender, it would be a lot easier to see what Long can do. But with the always varying health of our receivers, I feel more comfortable going with a guy who's already shown the ability to contribute in big games at the college and pro levels.

Doucet doesnt have much experience in clutch situations at the pro level. The only thing he has proven is that he cant stay healthy. Long is making things tough on WRs wanting to make this roster.

Seems like whoever gets the 5th or 6th spot is going to be just as good as anyone's #3 receiver in the NFL

Long was playing with the first string against the Chargers first string D last night. That's what got me to thinking he has a leg up on Doucet right now.
