If you can't get to 7 innings under 100 pitches, you can't go more than 7 innings most days, and you can't be an ace. That's 3-5 starter/innings eater kind of stuff. It doesn't matter what kind of shape he's in and how right he is about his durability, everyone's stuff starts to flatten out and slow down after 80 pitches. After 100, every pitcher is running on savvy and wits.

You don't draft a SP #3 overall if he is a 3-5 starter, the guy has too many pitches and is too talented. I guess this debate is moot until we see him in the bigs and the way the current staff is performing it will be soon.

Ha! Of course you don't draft a guy that high to be a mid-rotation starter. Bauer's problems are something that could be fixed as long he listens to coach and he's not rushed to the bigs.

My only contention was the suggestion was that he'd be an upgrade over every pitcher on the staff right now. Ian Kennedy is not pitching poorly right now and he wasn't awful in 2010. He's also only 27 and just hitting his peak years. Bauer is 21, head strong, and attempting to battle 100 years of baseball wisdom. To the extent he's succeeded in the minors, he's not someone I would give the ball to on the mound in a must-win game in the bigs right now. Kennedy? Absolutely.

For those that liked Danny Hultzen, he 3-hit the D-Backs over 7 innings last Thursday and beat them 4-2. However, he has sudden outbursts of control issues. One game he gave up 1 hit and 7 walks. He was considered a Mariners mid-season call up until that game.

Bauer is starting to sound more and more like a talented butthead.

If Bauer wants to challenge modern baseball convention by throwing 20 pitches an inning, that's his prerogative. His arm, his career. But being a starting pitcher isn't all about him, and it's bad baseball. Defense loses focus, guys make errors, the offense suffers. Not to mention it's going to be a challenge to go 9 innings on days his stuff his working. That's game management, Trevor, and it's the one thing you suck at, you blowhard.

Trevor Bauer and Alfredo Marte are the Diamondbacks representatives in this year's Futures Game. Unless Bauer's plying his trade in Phoenix instead.

Tyler Skaggs replaces Bauer in the Futures Game. 5-4 with a 2.84 ERA. 71K/21BB.

Let the Chuck Finley comparisons continue.
