Drafting Jones would be a huge mistake IMO, just like it was when we drafted Blogan Thomas. Both are very similar in being athletic, big, strong arm, inaccurate & having bad tape.

Ugh

Personally I'd take a flyer on Brandon Allen from Arkansas

I completely agree. drafting Jones would be a mistake. Might as well throw the pick away IMO if we are going to do that

I don't agree with the Thomas comparison other than physical size. Jones is a much better passer than Thomas ever dreamed of being.

That's true. I've watchted Jones' worst games this season and he didn't look inaccurate at all. The OL was shaky in pass protection at that point but got their act together by midseason when Jones was already benched. Anybody can see that his accuracy and ball placement are much better than Thomas'. Their size and athleticism are on a par, that's all. Jones is the better natural passer. Hence Thomas was a highly touted TE while Jones has always been a passer. His completion percentage has actually improved this year. The small sample size we have on Jones tells us he completed more than 60% of his passes despite not even having a full season under his belt. His TD:INT ratio is 15:7. The risk you take with him is that the sample size is about half a season. I think BASK like him. In theory he is the perfect QBOF with loads of untapped potential. If he is still on the board I would target him in round 3.

I like the potential of Driskel. Seems like the Cards are looking at later round guys which is probably a good thing.

I don't have much of an opinion on Jones or Prescott other than I question Jones's work ethic and drive, and I question Prescott's fundamentals.

Meh.

Not really a fan of the late round quarterback grab.

Carson Wentz, and Paxton Lynch. If they drop in the 1st, I say pick them up.

If not, wait for other opportunities.

Interesting that NFL.com has Driskel's NFL Comparison as Drew Stanton.

I'm of the philosophy that the Green Bay GM from back in the day had, though I can't remember his name. Draft a QB late in damn near every draft, and see what pans out. I mean, how many 5th, 6th, and 7th rounders are even going to make the roster anyway?

Ron Wolf I believe was the guy.

I agree with you about spending a late pick on a QB, what does it really hurt.

If this team can afford to red shirt a first round pick for an entire year they can afford to miss on a 5th round QB prospect.

Louisiana Tech Pro Day today (Wednesday)

Quarterback Jeff Driskel had a very successful pro day.

Standing on his Combine testing numbers, Driskel threw about 60 passes and all but two (one short, one just out of the reach of the pass catcher) were on the mark. Many felt Drskel could really not have thrown the ball better.

The quarterback met with the Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions today and has a workout with the Arizona Cardinals scheduled for later this week.

I have watched him all 3 years and he has got better each year. Good arm and accuracy and smart. He is certainly worth drafting. Probably 3 or 4.

And yet he rarely started & was benched down the stretch last year. I think most peeps have that National Championship game stuck in their heads when he was very good throwing to wide open WRs for big chunks.

Sure he was decent but I still think he's highly overrated.

Some draft guru thinks he is highly underrated

im not buying it. Watch the games. If the gurus had their say almost everyone would be over drafted. Just my opinion juza. But ask yourself this why did he only get limited starts in basically 2 years? I'm not counting his frosh season.

Like I said, most think of that 1 game where he blew up just as Blogan Thomas did against the Canes for his career game.

I m agree with u
But 1 hour a go i read a tweet from matt miller saying jones is his most underrated player in this draft
In the same time I dont think Ohio state coach was a masochist to bench him.
He knows the player better then anyone else and 2 season a go was the last in the depth chart

wasn't just about the NC game,...but the conference championship and playoff game as well... three games, increasingly high pressure...and he played well, did not panic, and led his team to wins.... he is very cool under pressure and performs well when the chips are down.

but like I said in a different post....you have to be able to play in the regular season too.....and that is what getting experience can teach him.

Cardale Jones has every tool imaginable to be a great NFL QB. He just needs to mature. What better place could he learn, besides a place like NE. Seriously. The guy is a stud. I don't give a damn about him being benched at Ohio state. It's clearly evident that Meyer has no clue when it comes to picking QBs so him benching Jones might have been a blessing.

Jones definitely didn't fit the OSU offense like Barrett does and is not a spread QB. The thing is, he was as set to turn pro last year at his press conference until Meyer stopped in that morning and talked him out of it by promising him the starting job.

But he was miscast in that offense and they finally had to make the change. It didn't help that their WR's were garbage and could not get open either.

Stay away from Urban Meyer QBs not named Alex Smith. Jeff Driskell & Jacoby Brissett made a smart move getting out of Florida
