Draft: RB Gurley should be ready for Training Camp

From Walterfootball.com

Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia
In speaking with sources, NFL teams are hearing that Gurley should be ready for the start of training camp. After tearing an ACL last November, Gurley is on pace to recover in time to begin his rookie season without having to go on the PUP (physical unable to perform list). The on-time recovery could really help Gurley's draft stock and his chances of going in the top-25 picks. Sources say that Gurley is a top-five talent, so he could be an excellent value in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Knee issue for a RB that hasn't played a down in the nfl....NO WAY!

His injury was Nov. 16th, 2014 There isn't a chance in hell he'll be practicing full by training camp. It'll be a full year before he's cutting on it and ready to practice at full speed...and even then there is no guarantee that he's going to be in full form. Most avoid the hard hits and tackles they once welcomed.

No way he's full speed and no way I take him in the 1st round.

At BEST he plays in January

any GM taking him in the 1st round is going to be crushed by next year.

Voice of reason right here.

I agree: NO WAY will he be ready. Trying to get on the field that soon is completely stupid anyhow. Autograft needs a good 9-10 months before lateral moves and cuts can be taken. There are some freaks of nature out there, but attempting to do so as early as 6-7 months is just stupid. See RG3…..

That all may have been true 8-10 years ago. Mathieu's knee injury was more severe than Gurley's and he was back this year. A team may play it safe with Gurley and PUP him for the first 6 weeks but he'll be playing this year.

Yep.

key word -> SHOULD

Yep.

Yeah, but RB is probably the position most affected by this kind of knee injury. QB would be in the running too.

We need instant impact from our first rounder. I don't want Gurley because he very easily may not offer that.

Once upon a time, teams passed on Frank Gore, round after round because of a knee injury.

He's still carrying the rock at age 32.

Once upon a time teams passed on Marcus Lattimore because of a knee injury then San Fran took him and everybody stood and applauded I swear you would of thought they had just drafted the next Walter Payton.

And he never amounted to anything 2 years later he was out of the NFL

Frank Gore is the exception come on now people

The Bills drafted Willis Mcgahee in the first round and sat him his rookie year. It's rare but teams do take chances on guys with significant injuries early in the draft.

and his career in a Bills uniform was 4.0 and 3.8 yards per carry...solid amount of yards racked up.
I say Willis is far from the norm.

Here is what I say to drafting an injured guy in round 1 :mulli:

You take SOLID players who are injury free and have NO off the field issues, were captains on their team and who live, eat, sleep and poop football.

Gurley would be ok for me in the 3rd round AND my Dr.'s better stand by their diagnosis for me to take him in the 3rd...or they'll be fired the day I cut Girley.

There is NO comparison to be had between the injuries suffered by Gore and Gurley to that suffered by Lattimore, whose knee was literally shredded.

another point....
Todd Gurley is nearly 3 years younger than Carlos Hyde. Gurley is 5 1/2 years younger than Andre Ellington.

Lattimore, Gore, and McGahee aren't/weren't the prospect Gurley is either. And, they had more severe injuries as well.
