Just curious about how people feel about Dragan Bender after this season.
Just curious about how people feel about Dragan Bender after this season.
He gets an incomplete on the season. But he passes the eye test with his handles and movement. I have no doubt he will only get better with time and maturity on and off the court. Ive never felt that way about Len. Even after his rookie season. Bender is very young but he gets it. Give him time.
He looked good, but he was timid, needs to physically mature, and he needs to work a bit on his shot.
I thought I was the only one that still likes Bender!
The board is overwhelmingly happy with him according to this poll. I do see now that some else has now joined slin in wanting him gone... or, more likely, slin snuck in under another name and voted a second time.
Omg if someone says bender is good one more time I'm going to scream.
Quite simply if you think that you're insane, look at the stats LOOK AT THE STATS!!!!

We don't look at Benders stats...we watch him play and look for potential.

Awww. I was going for the scream. The old 'eye test vs worst stats in the history of nba rookie season' chestnut again? I'm firmly on the fence with Bender in view of it!
Going by stats alone he was better than the Ben Simmons, who was the #1 overall pick. I don't see what's not to like when comparing their numbers.
Bender looked good on the court, especially when given real playing time. Considering it was a lost season with a number of players being shut down, he could have waited to return next season but he pushed himself to get back and play in the final 5 games and that shows quality character on his part. If he didn't return in April though he would have been under 500 minutes for the season which would have kept a number of his stats from being ranked amongst others players. You need at least 500 minutes to qualify for what is considered an "accurate" PER and other advanced stats.
Early in the year his minutes were very inconsistent though, it wasn’t until the end of December when he started seeing somewhat regular playing time and then he got hurt in mid January. There were still some stats that show what he could be in the future, like his split stats that break down how he played given the minutes he received. They split them a number of ways like day of the week, wins or losses, home vs road, month to month, etc. Anyone who watched him play could tell he played better the longer he was on the floor and the split stats based on minutes played back that up. Broken down by 0-9, 10-19, 20-29, and 30-39 minutes played, in games he played 20 or more minutes though he shot better from the field, 3 point range, had a better offensive rating, and his +/- was positive. Considering how bad we were all year, seeing him with a positive +/- was surprising.
Here are those stats...
