The slovenian guard Goran Dragic, who showed up in Vitoria to begin preseason work, confirmed that he will play out and finish his contract for baskonia before playing for the NBA.

this is just yet another indication that a gross pattern is in place. we have had a screaming need for a backup pg for nash's duration with the team and it's not been addressed. that's egregious mismanagment in my book.

Looking at the remaining PGs, Pargo would be at the top of the list. However, if the Suns go for veteran minimum type PGs, the Suns probably need two, maybe like Cassell and Armstrong. I can't believe how inept the Suns have been filling the backup PG position.

I wish the Suns would just go ahead and spend the money on Pargo. They put themselves in this awkward situation. The thought has run through my head that this may be a negotiating ploy by Dragic's manager to get a better contract from the Suns.

Man this whole situation is messed up, I wish we would get the story straight. I don't care for him if this story keeps going back and forth. This reminds me of the whole Ronaldo situation, in which he couldn't make up his mind if he wanted to leave or stay with ManU.

Time to bite the bullet, rip out the pocketbook and sign Pargo before someone else gets him. Cassell is too old and played terrible in the playoffs. The rest are scrubs.

Well, so far Dragic has repeatedly stated that he wished to stay in Europe and wasn't ready for the NBA. It was the Suns management who kept creating the perception that he might want to be here this year.

Time to bite the bullet, rip out the pocketbook and sign Pargo before someone else gets him.

If the Suns were indeed willing to give Dragic a contract starting at around $2M/year, then now they should take that money and give it to someone else, as opposed to only offering the veteran minimum. Unfortunately, because they waited this long, there just aren't any point guards left worth that kind of money.

Pargo is definitely interesting. Reportedly, he is considering an offer from the Spurs:

Dynamo Moscow is also interested in Jannero Pargo, who is still considering a roughly $2 million offer from the Spurs. Pargo is likely to sign with an NBA team, but as with so many other free agents this summer he is using the European offer as leverage.

So I wonder if the Suns would be willing to make the same/better offer to him, since they supposedly were willing to pay LT to bring Dragic. Seems like Pargo could be had for roughly the same amount of money.

I say put up or shut up time. Let him play for TAU or show that he WANTS to play for us. We have a huge spot for him to fill and a better team to learn with and a GM who believes he could be our future starting point.

No more begging or sounding desparate.

Start bringing in other point guards so that the door is closing on Dragic.

Not so fast on Dragic doom and gloom

If you saw a translation of Goran Dragic's recent comments on acb.com (www.acb.com/redaccino.php?id=50866), you probably have gone back to your available free agents list to figure out who is going to be the Suns backup point guard next season.

Not so fast. Dragic could still wind up a Phoenix Sun, as buyout talks continue between Dragic's camp and his Spanish team, Tau Ceramica.

Dragic made those comments to reporters from his native Slovenia and the quotes were picked up and translated by Tau's league Web site. His words were not much different than the comments Dragic made to a Spanish newspaper last month. Despite his comments about staying to play for Tau at that time, there continued to be indications in recent weeks that Dragic could wind up with Phoenix for the coming season.

The chances of that happening are as good today (after his comments) as they were last week. He still is under contract there so he naturally is going to talk about playing for Tau, not the Suns.

Dragic's contract does not include a buyout until next summer, when it would be about $1.5 million at the current conversion rate. It will take more than that to buy him out this summer and the Suns can contribute $500,000. They would have to give him a contract that would help him cover the rest of the buyout on his own. That presumably would start at close to $2 million.

However, there were hopes Dragic would be able to buy out of his contract a year early and join the Suns, who secretly worked out the 22-year-old point guard into Phoenix for a workout four days before the June draft, when the Suns took him in the second round after a trade that included giving up another $500,000 and a second-round pick. The Suns consider Dragic as an instant rotation player and a potential point guard of the future to replace Steve Nash down the line.

Its about negotiations. I think that they are hoping that Tau will offer them a buyout now that is similar to the one he would get next summer. Negotiations are tough when there are three or more parties involved. Real estate deals I've done like that have been nightmares. In this case, its the Suns, Dragic, Tau, and the Slovenians seem to get into it as well.

From this point on I will disregard anything that comes out of the Spanish press on Goran. I'll only pay attention if it is confirmed by local press or the team.

his shooting is far from poor. nearly 37% for his career from 3. i'd think the hornets would be quick to resign him as their bench was really their weak point last year. they added posey, but he won't score the way pargo can.

I don't know why Pargo remains unsigned. I don't look at his shooting so much as the way he pushes the ball. IMO, he would really help the Suns. He has nice career stats for a backup PG except for shooting. He would have particularly helped the Suns last season.

actually pargo is already considering a 2mil/year offer from the spurs. the 2 parties have been in talks for some time now.
