Not to piss in anyone's cheerios but he's unrestricted after July 1st so look for him to be trade bait at the deadline.

If he performs, he'll get his contract extension. The Coyotes have been looking at this guy for a couple years now so to basically have him fall into their laps is just about the luckiest thing that's happened to them in a long time. 27 year old starters aren't supposed to just be plucked off like this, if Bryz plays to his potential then he gives the team the solid presence they have lacked since Sean Burke.

That is assuming he wants to sign here, and after he's played here a few games I'm sure he'll have his doubts. Playing for a team with no offense and with this defense makes any goaltender look terrible. Then again, money talks.

He's made no bones about wanting to start, so to have the Coyotes be the ones willing to give him that role would go a long way. The Coyotes rarely have trouble signing or holding on to guys for reasons other than money, so if they're willing to give him his contract then I'd be surprised to see him split.

I just don't see the guy making a cash grab ala Doan to play for a last place team in front of 7,000 fans a night while they are getting their heads kicked in for the next few years when he could test free agency and get the same money elsewhere and win games. Either he wins here, which would be a miracle, and his stock would soar considering the circumstances, or he loses and looks for the first plane out of town. I could be wrong though. We'll see what Maloney has up his sleeves. I just see this guy getting dealt at the deadline. He'll have a big wake up call when he looks up and sees Matt Jones and Jovo asleep on D... Big difference from Neidermeyer and Pronger.

Wow, Bryz gets the shutout in his first game, including a couple nice saves in the last minute when the Kings had a 6-on-4 powerplay thanks to Jovo's typical Special Ed moment. Great start!

Oh, those Special Ed moments.... :pullhair:

This pickup really was great for the Yotes, finally a good break. He played great today and really made a statement.

It's hard to watch the Yote's games sometimes, but that hint of evolution is there. When the forecheck is going, D is up on the blue line and confidence is high, this young team really looks BIG. But one bad bounce or call and they seem to collapse and reform to a bunch of minor leaguers. We just need to hang in there on the standings, and who knows...

So who's the odd goalie out? AA or MT?? If recent play dictates, I think Telqy stays.

What do you guys/gals think?

I thought we could only trade him if another did not put in a claim on him on the waiver wire. I am sure others put claims in.

That may be the case. Maloney needs to work on a long term deal ASAP. He would be the best goalie we have had since Burke, and maybe since the Wall.

You're close as I understand it. Since he was claimed off of waivers, he would have to pass through waivers and go unclaimed in order to complete a trade (probably wouldn't happen near the deadline).

I think the Yotes will re-sign him. They searched all offseason for a starting goaltender and they ended up signing two backups -- Aebeischer and Auld.

Aebs has been sent down, Auld has the third highest GAA in the league (3rd worst), and Telly is the only guy who is playing respectable.

Unfortunately, I think the days are numbered for Aebs and LeNeveu. With Bryz and Tellqvist as 1 and 2, and Tjordman in San Antonio as a future NHL goaltender, this team is fairly deep at goal (add in a few youngsters in Pelletier, etc.). Auld will probably share time with Tjordman in SA. Not a bad situation for a team that didn't have any goaltenders a year ago.

I'm surprised that Aebi hasn't gotten another shot considering he did well in his only game and Auld hasn't gotten the job done. P.O. Pelletier wasn't given a contract, so he's a free agent as far as I am aware. Pretty disappointing considering the Coyotes used a second round pick on him. He's still playing in the Canadian Junior leagues as an overager, but it appears that his pro potential is minimal.

As far as goalies go, the Coyotes have the rights of Brett Bennett (5th round 2006), Joel Gistedt (2nd round 2007), and Scott Darling (7th round 2007). Brett Bennett back in 2005 got the bulk of the playing time for an absolutely loaded US Under 18 team (that year they had Patrick Kane, Phil Kessel, Jack Johnson, Erik Johnson, plus Coyotes Chris Summers and Peter Mueller) and performed well for them in a season shorted by injury. He's now with Boston University, a great hockey program, and has a shot at the starters role there.

Joel Gistedt is probably the best of the bunch, but is considered somewhat of a project. Swedish fans claim similarities between Gistedt and Henrik Lundqvist. Lundqvist spent 5 years in the Swedish league with Frolunda (who Gistedt also plays for) and Gistedt is expected to take a similar, lengthy time.

Scott Darling is considered even more of a project. He's currently with Indiana in the USHL but his numbers have been pretty brutal. However, he is headed to a good hockey program in the University of Maine, so its basically a wait and see type thing with him. The big theme with these guys is that they're all going to take time. Gistedt is a quality prospect and I have high hopes for Bennett, but it is going to take several years for either of them to even get a look with the Coyotes.

What happened to LeNevue?
Lenny is still around, hanging out in San Antonio with Aebischer and Tordjman which means that playing time is tough to come by being split three ways like that (and to boot, our farm team is actually good this year which means one bad start can get you benched for some time). I'm a big LeNeveu fan but its pretty obvious that somebody in the Coyotes brass isn't as he has never gotten a fair chance in the NHL despite tearing up the AHL on bad teams for several seasons. If he makes the NHL, it probably won't be with the Coyotes unfortunately.

I thought last season he was bad on a bad San Antonio team. I saw a bunch of LeNeveu games last season and I wasn't impressed.

Here's LeNeveu's stats last season w/San Antonio:
13-20-2, 2.97 GAA, .907 save percentage

Here's Tjordman's stats last season w/San Antonio:
15-18-2, 2.58 GAA. .920 save percentage

Last season his performance took a hit (though I wouldn't go as far as saying it was bad), especially after Gretzky's embarrassing tirade against him early on. So far he has bounced back well where as Tordjman has taken a couple steps backwards (but he was probably playing above his level last season), but at this stage LeNeveu is probably trying to audition himself for other squads.

By the way, Baldy Auldy was placed on waivers today. That would make a fourth goalie to San Antonio if he clears.

I may be the only one here who thinks this, but I really don't think Auld is as bad of a goaltender as he's looked this season. Perhaps a trip down to San Antonio will get him squared away.
