Dumbest Draft Move

You may recall in my Cleveland strategy post I mentioned SF was trying to rope-a-dope the Browns by making them think SF liked Trubisky. Cleveland didn't fall for it. Incredibly Chicago did and gave up 3 picks for a player they could have had by standing still. Not to mention this was way to early for him.

This doesn't really add up. This didn't have to do with San Francisco bluffing that they wanted him, Chicago traded with SF because they were worried about Cleveland moving there. If San Francisco wanted him, they wouldn't have been talking to the Bears saying "Oh, we really like this guy...but we are willing to pass if you really want him." That doesn't happen with QBs. You like them or you don't.

Hell yes they did. Thomas and foster are arguably the 2 best defensive players in the draft.

Agreed, SF did very well on paper. There are reasons that Foster dropped, but none had to do with his play on the field.

my suggestion for dumb move:

Seattle moving out of round 1.

Ryan Ramcyk, Tackle was right there. Wisconsin lineman tend to pan out, and, you dont have to mess with the transition from the spread. This seems like a pick where Seattle could have plugged him at one of the tackle spots and upgraded their OL situation immediately.

in a thin tackle draft, they missed arguably the best one.

The Bears move was a result of somebody else trying to trade with SF. So the "All that to only move up 1 spot?!" criticism is a little inaccurate. If they didnt, then somebody else wouldve traded with SF and taken Mitch.

i would argue differently -- Seattle had a bottom 5 OL in the league last year and likely cost them playoff advancement.

Cable is a fantastic OL coach but when the Seahawks were going to SB's their Oline took up a chunk of their salary CAP and they had maybe the worst OLine in the NFL last year.

If you listened to Jurecki this morning, he indicated that on top of his questionable conduct and failed test, his football IQ was found to be pretty low, which were simply too many red flags for Keim to overcome.

Have you looked at who's been on the line? Defensive linemen and guys we didn't want. I think he's done wonders with what he's been given. I agree the line needs help but I think they think he could field a really solid line with some late picks that were at least drafted to play o line.

It's also possible they thought someone else (mainly Clevland) was interested in moving there and taking him, so they paid the price for their guy. But I would've stayed at 3 as well. You get him or the best DL.
