What a shame !!!!!

The loss of Daryl Washington for the entire 2014 season is a terrible shame. The really sad part of it is that this suspension has nothing to do with his pending court case involving his girlfriend, but is due to yet another issue of substance abuse.

Somehow, the Cardinals have to find a way to mitigate this loss. That will not be easy. Moreover, the Cardinals should take steps to see that Daryl Washington can no longer cause this team problems.

Washington has become a Cancer on this team, and is in direct opposition to the great character people that otherwise line this roster. He has chosen to be a 'low life', having no regard for the results that his actions have brought to this organization, its fans, and his team-mates. Any blame for this lays directly at his feet, (and nowhere else).

Washington has done absolutely nothing to indicate that he cares for anyone other than himself, (save for a few hollow sounding words he uttered about being sorry). We have heard those before, and still he chose to ignore that he not only jeopardized his income, but he has trashed his bosses, his team-mates, and the fans who have cheered for him.

Washington needs to be swept out with the other trash when the team next cleans house. He has proven NOT to be worthy of any further trust.

Some players are just inadequate. JJ Arrington just couldn't be counted on to get that extra yard. Bryant Johnson couldn't ever seem to hold on to the ball in the clutch. Certain players just don't come through. Washington inadequacy burns a lot worse. Sickening that this fool just couldn't stay away from drugs. He let us down at the worst possible time. He'll go down as a total mission failure in my book.

Is he still up for another suspension - for the aggravated assault conviction - once this one is served?

You would think so! I'm just glad I never turned into a fool who $pent on his jersey because it would've soon been thrown into the trash like the Boston jersey was

I understand all the anger but mostly I'm just sad. I loved watching him play and I'll miss that.

Yes steve, i think he is the best linebacker i saw in cards uni, watching him attacking the line and making tackles for loss was spectacular.
But the guy he is not mature ,i m so disappointed
He was my favourite player since the day he played in his first pre season games.
With the probable suspension even for the assaut i cant really comprehend why they didnt draft a middle linebacker

Wow. What a 180 from me earlier. What an absolute selfish guy. I hate to make broad sweeps of th brush but you cant but help think this guy is just not a good dude. Where theres smoke there is fire. Guy has an amazing Lawyer and PR guy because I assumed because he was quiet and hard working he was a good guy. Dumb dumb dumb.

I am too emotional now to have good sense on what should happen from here. Jesus man I dont agree with weed being considered a PED and this type of offense but you still have to play the rules of the game to play. Not the way to fight the issue and damn just bad professional character.

I actuaqlly think the Silver Lining on this is Honey Badger. What a PRIME example of why just one toke can screw all the hard work and reputation rebuilding he has spent the past 18 months doing. I gotta think PP looks at him and says "See"

This isnt a moral issue. Its a character issue. Thanks Dwash. Biggest anticiaption for a season in Arizona history and pftttttttt.

Well see how good Arians, Bowles, and the staff really are.

Now the offense has to become an ELITE unit or we have no shot.

Agreed. Just sad. For everyone but him. Fans, FO, teammates - this has a butterfly effect on many peoples lives. Just so dumb.

And I cant see how anyone can slurp up that apology. While well written how freking hollow it sounds.

Haven't been able to post all day but I'm pretty angry. It's still just a game and I normally don't get emotional over football related stuff but the bind he puts the team (and fans) in really pisses me off. Draft/FA basically done, with nothing left to do but practice and start playing. Plus, they probably handle Dansby differently had they known what a douche DWash was. He left this team and his teammates screwed in quite possibly the worst way. They don't even draft the same if they know Wash is done for the year. Now they have limited options.

And what I really find sad is that I think this team and coaching staff (and even fan base) was primed in a way we haven't been--probably since the team moved here. Only other year with this much hope was probably after 2008 but I can't think of another year with this much promise and potential. And he blew it up all by himself.

What an ass, seriously, what a total ass. I don't even want him on the team anymore and I don't believe he'll ever play another down for AZ. Jurecki reported about 30 minutes ago that the team will try to recoup that money, due to a statute in the contract and the last bargaining agreement, and once they recoup that cash, he will be cut ASAP. It won't be too soon for me. He can't be trusted and he's just an ass to boot, don't care how he plays when he's allowed to play. His teammates and front office can't trust him ever again.

And as much as i love SK/BA we ABSOLUTELY should be questioning A) Why the bonus was still paid. They had to have an inkling right? B) Why Dansby wasnt retained even at that price and C) Why this wasnt addressed in the draft.

Actually this has to have been a complete bombshell. Only rational explanation. Team was caught with their pants down. So was I.....

Dwash happened at a bad time, relatively speaking, for the organization, because of all the turnover last year. Probably the last thing they worried about was one of their defensive leaders getting popped again. I put the blame all on Wash--these dudes are supposed professionals, getting paid a lot of money, and they put their trust in him as a grown man to act like one. I personally think smoking weed is a stupid violation, but the rules are the rules, and as well as this team played, after getting popped before(!), you would think as a professional he'd be focused on winning some more games and making the playoffs.

I dont know how they can think to replace washington with foote or sims.
The reason why we missed the playoff last year was due to washington's suspension

They talked about this my whole drive home on the radio and threw out some names, but there's really nobody. Certainly nobody on the team, but even FA is bare--one of the available names was the Stewart Bradley. We're not dead in the water but we lost one of our best oarsmen.

Problem is the Cowpies are hot after the same guys. I honestly think we should sign Ernie Sims ASAP cause I think he's the best of the bunch, athletically anyway.

Hell, we could always bring back good ol Buster Davis;)

I HAVE to believe this happened relatively recently. This FO hasn't shown any level of incompetence that suggests they did all of the above with knowledge he got nailed again.

Agree with you on Sims, he's almost a necessity at this point.

The one-year-minimum suspension for Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington means that previously he had been in Stage 3 of the substance-abuse program. Which means that he was subject to up to 10 drug tests per months. Which means that he was one failed test away from a minimum one-year absence.

Which means the Cardinals knew. Which means their decision to trigger a $10 million option bonus earlier this year was confusing, to say the least.

The good news for the Cardinals is that have paid only $5 million of the money so far. The better news is that they can keep $2.5 million of that money with Washington gone for 2014.

The good news for Washington is that he can earn back the $2.5 million at the back end of his contract, since the entire deal by rule tolls for a year. Which means that he’s now signed through 2018 instead of 2017.

If he’s never reinstated, the Cardinals can keep the $5 million they haven’t paid and, in theory, try to get $5 million back. But if it ever comes to that, it will mean that the Cardinals will have never gotten Washington him back.

wait...I'm confused. they knew he went into another stage...or was that the same stage he was at after last year's idiocy? either way, their decision making here picking up that option and not trying to renegotiate that bonus is questionable.

If the bonus wasn't paid, he was a free agent.
