And just before he convinced the Cards to give him the $10 million bonus.
FWIW, this is bad info that keeps getting reposted. He didn't get that full bonus. It was staggered through '15. He obviously didn't get a dime in 14 or 15.

I think he's an idiot. I remember when he was drafted and K9 was 100% opposed to the pick for a multitude of reasons. I was too heartbroken that we missed out on Weatherspoon that year. I remember the first interview I saw with him and just being blown over how dumb he was. Belicheck always credits Don Shula with telling him to never draft dumb players. That's been my issue with DWash. At this point, I don't care enough about him to bother with seeing if he's truly repentant enough to change his ways. I hope he's a good enough liar though if not that the team brings him back. He's an unbelievable value at his current salary and I want a championship. The end.

I see what you did there... and I love it!

I mean, what can he say this time that he didn't say the last time he was suspended? He's a liar. Here's what he said last time:

"I was always taught that when you make a mistake, you admit it, learn from it and face whatever consequences there are," Washington said in a statement. "I take full responsibility and I understand that I let down my teammates, the organization and fans. I apologize for that and promise that no one will work harder to make up for it."

We just going to act like he didn't work hard make the Cards defense elite in 2013 despite a four game suspension?

Cards without Dwash in 2013: 2-2
Cards with Dwash in 2013: 8-4

He's a moron, but if he can still play, suit him up. He committed the crime, but he also served his time. If he can't play, send the bum packing. It'd be nice to have a player of his caliber back on the team, but I just don't care that much.

Exactly my thoughts.

They haven't. He hasn't counted against the cap since he was suspended.

Not so.

They got relief from the salary and have accounted for the bonus, and for that reason I question that he didn't receive it in full.

If there is a story suggesting the contrary, please post.

Here's an article from '14 where it says they hadn't paid it yet and it was set to come in installments.

The bonus has been counted against the cap; his salary did not. It's part of the reason he wasn't cut, because the dead money would have been a huge hit. Whether or not he actually received any of that $$, I don't know, but weren't the Cards thinking about legal action when he got suspended to try to recoup that bonus?

Keep him. Gives us incredible depth at LB. Between Dansby, Reddick, Buc, Dwash, Golden, and Chandler, Buc may be the weak link.

Open competition. 2 best ILBs and 2 best OLBs play. The others play special teams. Draft status and pay are irrelevant.

Put a big doobie in his locker then if it's missing pull the trigger on a drug screen.

Seriously though if DWash wants to come back they'll have to restructure.

So based on all this cap input does anyone have an accurate perspective on whether D Wash has any cap hit in 2017 for bonus $$ or would his only hit be for salary? If that were the case there is no harm in keeping him right up to the final cuts and if he still has it keep him or trade him because his value vs cap might be pretty attractive to anyone willing to risk his off the field problems are behind him.

One site says that this (the final year) CAP hit is $2.5m another calculates it at $1.875. This amount is accounted by the Cards under the CAP. It can't be transferred.

At this point his old contract, which had been frozen restarts. His salary would be $2.9m in 2017.

CAP hit (2017) $2.9m + either $2.5m or $1.875.

They probably would renegotiate his whole remaining deal and failing that release him.
