Can't argue with this contract. Low risk, high reward. Position of need. Talent of need. He is not just a speed rusher, he uses a combination of technique and strength. That can still continue to be effective even at advanced age. I just don't see a downside here.

Why do I get the feeling he's going to come in and make a big impact? I'm usually ho-hum about these type of signings but I think he's going to make his presence felt.

I hear ya & been saying his presence is going take our D to another level. Just imagine if we would've went after Demarcus Ware like we should've:eek:

I don't think it's unrealistic, there are plays to be made. He's always been a technician, based off speed. He has limited speed now, but he can recognize plays and make moves on guys. That's why he had a lot of hurries and forced throws, but few sacks with SD. Cambell can really open his game up, but they'll need time playing together. At this point, I'm all for hurries or any kind of pressure. Don't underestimate his value at coaching the young guys up either. He can progress them faster than any coach when he's out there with them.

Freeney is a great signing. We shouldn't expect miracles though. But he can explain the line and backfield play better than any coach because he's right there in it. Once everyone is on the same page, I expect our overall rush to improve. Freeney will tell dudes how they could have got sacks, tell them how, if he was just a few years younger, he'd have destroyed that play. They'll listen.

Some hurries and coaching is what we're gonna get out of this dude. And it's worth it.

This is my take, Okafor is a solid player who will get better as he perfects technique with his strength but he is never going to be a huge sack guy because a lack of quicks and acceleration. We really have no pass rush right now even with Okafor because teams can freely double team Campbell when they spot him. Freeney even at his age has more speed than anyone on our front seven and he has all the tools of the trade in technique... I expect positive results :)

Not only is he very good but he is a vet with leadership and teaching ability for the younger guys, I like the aspect of him being able to show the younger guys some tricks and sharing his knowledge of the game.

There is a simple reason. Our secondary is really, really good. It gives him more time to rush the QB that he has ever had before.

Synergy.

To me it's kind of the snow ball effect. If Freeney can come in and he gets single blocking and that results in a ton of pressure and a few sacks other teams are going to have to account for him. When that happens now they will have to figure if they want to double team Freeney or Campbell. This creates more mismatches for the Cardinals. It also allows gap blitzes to become more effective especially if the offense has to look at double teaming both Campbell and Freeney. Once Oakafor comes back you add another decent pass rusher into the equation. Add in Rucker who has made his presence known and you now have an effective 4 man rush in Campbell, Freeney, Rucker, and Oakafor and if you add in Golden, this could create matchup problems for the other team's Oline or have them keep a TE or RB in to help out which means less receivers in our secondary. If opposing teams end up having to keep 6 in to block 5 then at most they have 4 receivers running against 6 DBs. I like those odds.

Add to that an offense that tends to score alot. Once you get ahead then it forces pass situations, making Freeney more effective. Also, even without sacks, rushing the QB forces mistakes when leads to incomplete passes or interceptions. This secondary will feast.

Again. Synergy.

Freeney was talking with Wolfley yesterday and said that he is very excited about playing with the Cards and that he's never been lined up next to a 3-technique guy as dominant as Campbell. He thinks that he'll get plenty of opportunities to have a one-on-one match up because of it and create one-on-ones for Campbell.

It will be something to watch.

I apologize if this has been said previously because I haven't read the entire thread, but I think Freeney will have a big impact on Golden. Although Golden will never have elite speed, he is strong high motor player that could be really effective if he could pick up a couple of Freeney's moves and technique.

Wolfley mentioned this as well, specifically Golden. He said that Freeney is almost like a coach because of the respect he commands by players around the league. And he may have an impact on Campbell learning new techniques too.

Great point on bringing this up.

You beat me to it! Golden and Riddick should get a first-class tutorial from Dwight Freeney.
