It sucks that we will lose the dynamic quality of Ellington if his foot keeps him out. He is a playmaker but his main advantage is his versatility but I will say it now... Dwyer is a good back and no push over (or fall over the turf of grass Wells), and he will be better than what we had with Mendy :)

We have to ride Dwyer. Time for him to step up and show what he has.

Have to stay positive with all the injuries

I'll give Dwyer the benefit of the doubt but let's please not compare him to Mendy, who, on his best day, was average. Hightower was a better back than anyone we have uninjured and that's not saying alot.

Ellington's advantage isn't just his versatility though--it was the fact that he can take it to the house on any given play. Dudes have to play disciplined football with Ellington back there, mind their gap responsibilities and not overpursue. Otherwise he will bust one all the way or for a huge gain. None of our other backs have that. If they cheat on our backups the worst than will happen is a 10 yard gain, at best. Most likely they'll kill our guys for losses, with the occasional gain. Ellington could destroy their pursuit with cutbacks and stutters, they had to stay honest. We just won't have that without him if he misses time.

Hence, I said Ellington was a playmaker but Dwyer was no chump coming out of college and actually had proven more than Ryan Williams ever did. He is a solid NFL caliber back in my opinion on a offense which passes the ball more than they run... Ellington is like an extra WR but Dwyer can catch better than that dude named Housler in my humble opinion lol

Dwyer instead of Ellington. Minter and Foote instead of Dansby and Washington. Frostee Rucker instead of Darnell Dockett.
Half a Honey Badger. 4 new starters on the offensive line. A 34 year old QB with his 3rd franchise.

We're an Expansion team.

:sad:

It could be worse. Imagine if we had Beanie Wells waiting in the wings.
Yep, I'd much rather have a guy who in the same 4 year span that has run for 1500 less yards and has 22 less TD's.

Wells= 2471 yds, 24 TD
Dwyer= 971 yds, 2 TD

Dwyer is healthy though but that's about it.

Cbus, you forgot to add that Dwyer, also, has 'heart'. Probably just an oversight.
I know he likes to eat hearty meals since he's been overweight his entire career.

Funny to question Wells's heart when he tried to play on 1 leg for 2 years.

If Dwyer's our starting back, we're toast. He's okay at times, but he's also gutless. Used to beg to come out of games, which really frosted the coach's flakes in Pittsburgh.

All this doom and gloom. Look at all the games that Ellington got siginificant playing time but didn't do much.

Dwyer is a capable NFL RB, one of those guys that I saw on another team that I always wanted for the Cardinals. His struggles with Pittsburgh correlated with their overall problems run blocking. We've seen first hand (Hearst, Jones, etc.) how even good backs look below average or average running behind bad lines.

This isn't a team that's built to rely on the running game. I'm not too worried.

Yeah, gotta disagree on Dwyer. Living in Pittsburgh, having heard his play dissected every which way, hearing every bit of discussion on him, both pro and con, watching for myself...we're in trouble if we rely on him for any great bulk of the season.
