But if that deal doesn't work and Miles is not as valuable as Marion, then how could combining them be an improvement?

The point is you like Marion at 11mil better than Miles at 5.5-6 plus 5-5.5mil cap room. I disagree with you.

No, I said Marion is a better player than Miles. A lot better player than Miles if you look at total career. Miles is a super athlete but doens't play hard all the time. That's why Silas didn't play him much in Cleveland. He did better in Portland, but this is a guy who gets $5.6 million this season as his qualifying salary as an RFA. How do you trade for a guy with only one season left on his contract and not know what it would take to get him to sign an extension.

Claiming that you can trade Marion for Miles and get the $5.6 million in cap space is of course nonsense. Straight up, you can only trade Marion for Miles unless you also take back another contract. You cannot pretend that such a deal creates cap space because it won't.

As I said before, if trading Eisley, the Chicago pick, and taking on a larger contract by $2.6 million for Davis is too expensive, then I don't see how throwing in Marion for Miles makes the deal any better. It makes it worse.

If Portland is going to trade for an over priced point guard, I see them making a deal for Jason Kidd.

Just did a trade checker and this deals works

Kidd and Kittles (Jason Collins could be added)

for

SAR and Stoudamire (Stepania could be added)

team that with

Marion and Vujanic and Chicago pick

for

Theo and Miles.

Marion and Kidd could be reunited.

That could do a lot for Portland and sends expiring contract to New Jersey or should I say the Brooklyn Nets.

It won't happen. I don't see how it makes Portland materially better and they would probably be worse. They get a Kidd who is having another knee injury and a grossly overpaid Kittles on a long term contract. Also, they give up a lot of their cap flexibility.

Plus, Theo and Miles for Marion and stuff is not going to cut it. Portland is not a team that thinks about the future and that deal is heavily focused on the future . On a one year basis, Theo is more valuable to them than Marion would be.

My feeling is that if we get Q, we still have one more season, one season to let the young guys develop, and one final summer to sign a big free agent center.

However, if we stay with Marion, we need to make a move now for a center, we can't keep waiting while our young talent only ages. We have a great chance to win RIGHT NOW if we can just add a powerful center.

Portland has not had a Superstar since Clyde Drexler.

Portland's owner has very deep pockets.

Kittles will be an UFA next summer.

After missing the playoffs last year (the first time in 15 years) its time to retool.

As much as everyone thinks Theo is so valuable to the Blazers they did not make the playoffs with him, they made the playoffs with Dale Davis every year.

This is my last post in regards to this deal, I am just going to sit back and watch. When the Theo deal goes down, I'll be back with an "I told you so". The Kidd trade to the Blazers may not happen but since the NBA is the only game in Portland, I would do it in a heart beat if I was Paul Allen. Telfair would benefit greatly by having JK around.

I don't know if you saw the this in the other thread, so Ill put it here too.

Colorado, why do you think the Blazers are freaking out about having 6 expiring deals?

They planned it that way. Next summer they will have the most cap room out of any team. The Suns did the same thing for this past year, and it worked out pretty good.

For somereason you seem to think that the Blazers HAVE to make a deal with some of their expiring contracts.....

For some reason you seem to think that the Blazers HAVE to make a deal with some of their expiring contracts.....

So are they going to offer inflated contract to UFA's or just wait and see if the RFA offer sheets get matched. The Suns did the first and are waiting with there money tied up on the second. If we don't get Q I think we had a mediocre offseason.

That's just a huge void to fill in one offseason. It not like they're all reserves, you're talking about 3 starters and 3 reserves. With the frenzie of this offseason how are they going to keep them all or replace some on the overpriced market. It is over half their team. SAR and Ratliff were a option to loosing Rasheed this summer, it bought them time and trade value. They have found the market for SAR "soft", of the 6, the only one with trade value is Theo.

Whoops, just violated my gag order.

It's really too bad there aren't any Blazer fans on our board. One thing they would point out is that their team came on very strong near the end last season and came very close to making the playoffs (two games behind Denver with a record of 41 and 41). Just keeping the roster together should make them a serious playoff contender.

Do any of these moves make them more likely to get into the playoffs this season? Do any of these moves give them more cap flexibility next year?

Kittles contract expires after next season. However I agree that that trade is very unlikely.

Theo Ratliff is that valuable to the Portland Trail Blazers. Once he arrived and established himself in the middle that team was much, much better. They made a late charge and just barely missed the playoffs.

That's fine. You can really stick it to us when Theo Ratliff is traded to the Phoenix Suns. I wouldn't hold your breath though. :)

What good would that do?

There are plenty of Suns fans here that are telling him the exact same thing, but if he doesn't want to listen, it's not going to matter, right?
