Edgar pitched great last night for Hermosillo. 7 inn, 3 hits, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 k's, and his era is 1.29. Edgar will never miss alot of bats but, this young man knows how to pitch. It will be very difficult for Brenly to send him to Tucson this year.

Edgar has a lot of talent and I believe he has a legitimate chance at getting the 5th spot in the rotation.

Acquiring Shane Reynolds decreases that possibility. You have Johnson, Webb, Dessens, Reynolds. Two awful pitchers that will take up 25 man roster spots because they are veterans and money. That leaves one roster spot, with two others who should have higher priority.

I believe John Patterson is out of options, so he has to be given a real shot this year. He cost the D-Backs $10 million or so when he was signed in the loophole fiasco all those years ago. Casey Fossum was the centerpiece of the deal for Curt Schilling, so I don't see how he can be kept out of the rotationm either. Gonzalez is still young and has lots of options, so I expect to see him spend next year at AAA.

This is why the Shane Reynolds signing was so stupid.

Schillingfan is probably right. Edgar is still only 21 and has options. Edgar will have to have a dominate spring to stick. He will be up at some point next year and probably be in the rotation for many years to come.

Rosario
Nippert
Gonzalez
Aquino
Gosling
Stockman
Doyle
Bruney
and many more

We have some damn good young arms that are going to help the big club very soon.

Elmo pitched pretty good for Hermosillo on the 3rd.
7 inn, 4 hits, 2 er, 1 bb, 6 k's. Elmo would be fine as a 5, but not a 3.

Rosario's numeros looked pretty dang good when last I saw them, too - do you know how he's been doing recently?

You know, regarding Shane Reynolds et al, there's always the Tonya Harding School of Roster Management.

Maybe we could get a group of board posters together as a Spring Training project--a special "bat" day! ;)

Edgar will get his shot at some point during the year...as soon as there's an injury or someone gets lit up consistently. Hopefully he'll tear it up and earn a spot.

Who is this guy? We have some great young arms.

http://www.aztrib.com/index.php?sty=15859

William Juarez, a 22-year old right-hander who pitched last year for short-season Class A Yakima, threw a seven-inning no-hitter Tuesday for Chinandega of the Nicaraguan League. Juarez struck out 14, including eight straight and 10 of the final 12 he faced.

Elsewhere in winter ball, Edgar Gonzalez and Elmer Dessens are pitching for Hermosillo in the Mexican Pacific League playoffs. Gonzalez pitched six scoreless innings in his first postseason outing after having a 2.50 ERA in four regularseason starts and Dessens gave up three runs in 6 1 /3 innings in a playoff start.

Prospect Adriano Rosario was eighth in the Dominican League with a 2.93 ERA and has a 0.84 ERA in two playoff outings.

oops - looks like Rosario's numbers just went blammo - 0.0 innings pitched, 2 earned runs in a loss that concluded the Dominican championship series. Reminds me of Bruney in the Olympic trials. Too bad.
