I love that site. They are the enquirer of the NFL - a "rumor" site that is accurate about stories more often than not. They don't appear to suck up to anyone or any team like most of the mainstream media has to.

I dont understand some of the Edge hate on this board. Some of us seem to have a very short memory. Edge gave this team 2400 rushing yards in 2 seasons, I dont even think we had that much yardage as a team in the 2 years previous to Edge's arrival.

He gained those yards behind arguably THE WORST run blocking O-line in football over the past few seasons. He is still a very valuable piece of this team IMO. Hightower --who I really like--is certainly the future, but he has done squat since STL.

Its more a product of our team than the runners and we have to pass so much that the running game has become moot.

I praise Edge for his efforts here and his willingness to give our franchise a lift when it couldn't even sniff the jock of mediocre talent at the position.

See, it's already gone from asking to demanding. That's how things get blown out of proportion. I'm sure Edge said something like ,"if you're going to bench ne can i get released to hook on with another team that i could start on." When you see the likes of Rudi Johnson, Cedric Benson, and Warrick Dunn starting, i can't blame him for asking.

Poor wording on my part. I am with you in that if anything, this was an off the hand comment and being blown out of proportion for no reason.

I don't put alot of stock in this report until it is confirmed, but I think it could have gone down like this:

Before Rames Game:

Whiz: Edge you are being demoted and Hightower is starting...
Edge: Well if I am not going to be playing, can I be released so that I can catch on with another team?
Whiz: No, we'll still need you down this stretch.

PFT: (11/19/08) Edge asks to be released (implying the conversation took place weeks later than it actually did).

I think it went down like this:

After the Rams Game:

PFT Editor: Hey did you see that Edge got Benched.
PFT Writer: Yep
PFT Editor: I want you to come up with a story about Edge if he continues to ride the pine
PFT Writer: No Problem. I've already got something in mind.

That's funny. I think it is pretty much a one-man operation, isn't it? Mike Florio is pretty much PFT. I think since he's been contributing to the Sporting News, he's tried to be a little less of a hack, though he still has his moments.

Wait, why am I defending this guy?

I'm still waiting for this to be on the front page of PFT:

Hightower's real dad found!

Tim Hightower's dead beat dad "Pred" wants to reunite with son

PFT has heard from reliable sources that the Arizona Cardinals rookie standout Tim Hightower has heard from his dad for the first time since he was born.

"Pred" as he refers to himself, wasn't around when little Timmy was growing up. He was often seen in South America during the warm summer months. After that he would disapper for the rest of year. Not once did he pay child support. "I couldn't stand the bitter cold. That is why I was never around for my son" says Pred.

PFT has learned that Tim wants nothing to do with his father. "We have nothing in common except for our hair style and ability to kick some ass."

Do we know how Mike Sherman responded to Edge's request?

Was thinking the same thing. Even though they are trying to clean up their act, PFT seriously demeaned Kellen Winslow and his health situation recently by their idle speculation and repeating assinine rumors. Sometimes they are despicable in their behavior in pursuit of the latest rumor and gossip.

I think people mistake hate for something else. I never said he was a detriment to the team, although players that are more concerned about personal stats than team ones usually are that way.

Edge says the right things at times and at times he has gone toe to toe with management. This isn't always a bad thing either, it is respectable to do so when other teammates won't.

Edge just isn't a part of our long term plans, and quite frankly, I'm not sure if Warner is either.

Besides just a feeling no one has ever been able to put any kind of substance as to why they feel that way.

Me first players do not:

1. Get called the best TEAMMATE I have ever had by Payton Manning.
2. Have more then one player wear an Edge jeresy to the first day of training camp the year he left to go to another team. (Wayne, Harrison, Rhodes all wore his jersey to the first day of camp).
3. Get a super bowl ring even though you are a year removed from the Colts team.
4. Still help to motivate, train, give tips and hints, to your competition even though that competition already got you benched.
5. Get the game ball of your competition for all the help he gave to him.
6. Have Warner stick up for and laugh off the idea that he would be a distraction in an interview after the Monday night game.

Sorry but this guy is loved by all of his teammates everywhere he has gone or has met. That doesnt happen to me first players. He is me first just like any other player is me first. Warner was making the same kinds of comments the beginning of this year, he was making the same comments when benched at the Rams and at the Giants. Doesnt make them me first players just normal football players who want to play that have egos like everyone else.

You get the hat-trick: :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I think he is still being professional. He hasnt said a word about anything to the media since his benching and his original comments. Dude hasnt spoke in weeks, according to all of the players and coaches he hasnt even been a distraction in the locker room, they all still love the guy.

He isnt speaking to the media and by all accounts is trying to keep it in house, and he isnt being a distraction in the locker the last 3 weeks. For a guy who has fallen so far from grace I think that is the best you could hope for in terms of professionalism. 99% of this so called disctractions are media speculation and not based on anything the organization, players, or Edge himself is putting out there for public consumption.

If we assume the story is true though, I think then Edge is being a bit selfish. He's essentially asking us in a playoff race to release him so he can find a team that will play him more.

So he's saying I don't care about being part of the first Cards playoff since '98 just play me or cut me. And if we were to get an injury to TH or JJ, suddenly we have who, Baylark?

I don't fault him for wanting to play, but if he really asked for a release now, I think it's a bit unfair.

Joeshmo speaks for me as well...

Players WANT to play! Over-all, I think the situation has been handled very well by everyone involved. ...And to think that we're NOT going to NEED Edge at some point is ludicrous. There's (6) games to go BEFORE the play-offs even start. If anything, this time is giving Edge a chance to rest so he can be MORE explosive for the finish.

I'm disappointed.

If they granted it, he would have missed out on another ring.

I still don't think Edge did anything wrong here though. He hasn't divided the locker room, he's just asking to be given a chance to play. If he turns it into a locker room controversy, then I'll have a problem with it.

“Edge is not looking to create a distraction or impact team chemistry,” Rosenhaus said. “But this is a difficult situation for him. It’s a very confusing decision, not just to not be starting but to not be contributing. He’s in the prime of his career and he wants to contribute.”

LOL at Rosenhaus!

"in the prime of his career"... that's a good one Drew. At least Nashman finally has someone who agrees with him. :)

Why wouldn't he?

He's been classy about this demotion. Far more than I would be. He asked two weeks ago, and it's only coming out now?

I completely see his point of view, but am also fully fine with him riding pine.
