Makes sense, Hood made too much money for a nickelback. We could be in trouble though if McFadden or DRC get hurt. We'd be starting Brown or Toler in that case.

minus bonus due = 6M

Well according to Joe's spreadsheet...

Edgerrin James 2009 $5,000,000 $1,750,000 $6,750,000
Travis Laboy 2012 $2,000,000 $1,500,000 $3,500,000
Roderick Hood 2011 $3,000,000 $500,000 $3,500,000

Their total cap hit this year would have been $13.75 mil--their base pay was $10 million...I still don't get the math.

Laboy & Hood only save $1 million total? Doesn't even seem to make it worth it

Another thing that bugs me, why didn't we try trading these guys for draft picks? The Eagles traded a pick for Ellis Hobbs. Hood is probably equal or better than him. And I'm sure somebody would have thrown us maybe a 6th or 7th rounder for LaBoy. It's not like they'd kill anyone's cap if they took them on.

This whole thing seems weird. Hopefully we'll see an extension soon that will make this seem more sensible.

Sorry to se LaBoy go. I thought if he got healthy, he'd produce. Someone has got to step up now.

Surprised but if you think about it; it does make sense. They were disappointed with Hood's performance last year and stocked up on dbs in free agency and the draft. LaBoy was very one dimensional. He really just didn't contribute that much. Looks like the Cards are not afraid to make some tough decisions. I wonder if there are any veteran free agents out there that they may go after.

10M - 3.75 = 6.25

Not really we didn't need his cap savings... Iwould rather have a good solid #3 then a rookie from a small school. Even at 3 million.

Hobbs is also a return specialist...that increases his value over Hood.

So you're bugged about something that may or may not have happened...

How come 3.75 million gets subtracted from the base pay and not the total cap hit?

Joe... has taken people through this before, I believe.

In the end your saving (true saving) is salary minus what ever bonus is outstanding. You are wrapping up accounts, so to speak.

We need cap savings, period. Just cutting Edge wasn't gonna help us sign re-sign Boldin, Dansby and AW.

But if cutting Hood & Laboy only saved $1 million was it really worth it?

Maybe they are going to shoot for Larry Foote or Levi Jones with the extra cap space?

Laboy was under contract to 2012 and Hood till 2011. Not sure if bonus' in those years all have to be absorbed up front or not.

I think it was a mistake cutting Hood and Laboy, but for different reasons.

Hood I think had some value as a nickel corner, and while he was probably overpaid for a nickle corner, his cap savings by cutting him was only 2 mil, and now you have Rolle, Brown/Adams, or a raw 4th rounder as nickle DB.

Laboy actually cost us 2.5 or so mil to cut him, he still had 4 years left on his contract. He could still provide value as a backup. Why cut him now?

How do you know they didnt try? Given the salaries (which a team would assume if they traded for them) I am not surprised other teams didnt bit

I sure hope the Cardinals had a good draft, especially DBs.
