If we didn't win that miracle game vs Minnesota in week 17 we would've had the #1 pick and drafted Eli right? Denny Green loved Larry but i doubt he would've taken a WR #1. What do you guys think? Hard to pass on a franchise QB...

We would have traded back and drafted Larry guaranteed. No way green wasnt taking Larry IMO. Good thing too cus manning would have refused to play here as well.

Why wouldn't he want to come here and play with future HOF running back Emmitt Smith?

That win vs. Minn. Led to our SB RUN; I wouldn't change a thing.

The Monday Night Meltdown vs the Bears led to our SB RUN also. I'm torn on changing that one.

Sometimes when I'm stuck in traffic I like to think about how different things would be for us if Rackers had made that FG.

I love Larry more than anyone but-

Franchise QB > Franchise WR

Plus we had an elite reciever anyway. Instead of taking Leinart we take MJD ;>

Denny Green wasn't coming to Arizona unless Larry Fitzgerald came with him. The mistake came the next season when they took AntRon instead of AaRon. But then the Bidwills couldn't afford to draft a first round QB until 2006 when the new stadium opened. So we get Matt Leinart.

My gut tells me if we had drafted Manning and he actually signed with us, he'd be sitting on the bench for Houston right now.

IIRC, the Mannings had a fairly short list of places he would go and AZ was NOT one of them.

A few things:

Archie was quoted as saying he had a ton of respect for Denny, and no objections to AZ. In fairness, AZ didn't have the first pick, so it may have been one of those throw away lines.

I had the chance to go to a fairly small gathering of business types with Denny, Mike B etc. it was the night befor free agency started. Denny said a few things: first was that at midnight he was calling a guy named Bertrand Berry. The other was that he loved Josh McCown. Last, he thought Roethlisberger was the best QB and that if Eli had a last name other than Manning, he would be a low first rounder.

Oh how easy it is to forget the past. 2004? We were looked at as toilet trash, if you think San Diego wasn't good enough and assume AZ would have been you've got blinders on.

With that said I would not have minded having Rivers.

Although, as someone else suggested, it's likely we wouldn't have ever made it to the Super Bowl as Kurt to Fitz and Q would have never occurred.

This is the reason I love seeing our team fighting like crazy to win the last game against Seattle, having a sooner pick doesn't necessarily translate to a better pick.

I'll take the Fitz pick all day long.

That draft was insane. At least 5 future hall of famers.

Thanks for that. Far closer to inside information than what I'm going by. I'm probably remembering the report of him not wanting to play for SD and (being the down-trodden Cardinal fan I am) assuming that if he didn't want to play for the Chargers, he certainly wouldn't play for the Cards. :|

Denny said he will always take BPA and said he thought Fitz was the best player in the whole draft. I don't think this is a bluff. I wouldn't have been shocked to see him take Fitz #1.
