I'm surprised that he admitted to this! I thought it was subconscious but he knew he was avoiding contact. This is no way to make the roster.
He did mention he isnt scared anymore and will be fighting tackles moving forward.

I saw him fight for 2-3 more yards on a draw to the right. We aren't watching the same game.

That is my point...1 time. Go back and watch the Oakland game and count how many times he fell (laid) down. Then go count how many times Penny made yards after first contact.

I can't believe he said it and continues to do it.

He's still doing it.

Personally I'd cut him for admitting it, because it sets a bad tone in the locker room to others who have given every ounce to blood sweat & body at all times.

The Cards made a mistake even resigning this kid IMO.

He will have a hard time making our team and if he makes the team, it obviously wasn't a mistake.

Cutting the guy for being scared of aggravating injuries when coming back would be silly, Mathieu had concerns about his knee when he came back. Every player does. Players just simply do not admit it fully. Ellington did.

Lets see you tear your knee when walking through a line of people hitting it with a baseball bat and then as soon as it feels ok, suddenly volunteer for another knee whacking right away before you suddenly be so judgmental of others.

Ellington and Penny are different runners, figuratively and physically. Comparing him to Penny is silly.

Most of the times Ellington 'went down' it is because he was moving laterally or behind the line of scrimmage. Most don't break too many tackles there.

Yeah Ellington has gone down in the way too past but it is way more complicated now. You can see it if you want to.

Throw in the fact that we are spoiled by David Johnson and it just compounds it.

I agree with you that they are different. Penny is more complimentary to what we need. Grinder with ST skill. Ellington is a good pass catching RB in space but he sucks at RB. A one dimensional player with no ST contributions?

Juke is trying to find the right "style" at this point. As pointed out he isn't Penny and we shouldn't expect him to try and be a plow horse. He also can't start diving to the ground when it looks like he may get hit. He has to run hard and try to get the extra yards when it makes sense and make a good decision and go down or step out of bounds when it makes sense.

I've seen him go for the extra yards and not lay down and I've seen him go down a bit to early and easily at times this preseason. He is working through this process at this time.

He did pick up two to three key first downs against the Raiders. As I posted in another thread I'm not sure he makes the Cards 53 but he will be on some teams 53 this year.

I agree Penny fought for those extra yards but it's as if Ellington still gets as many yards because Penny has no acceleration

The difference is that Dre has never suffered a serious injury in the NFL that kept him out for long period of time.

He's not a STs player contributor, repeatedly avoids contact, repeatedly nicked & a situational player at best. Personally I'd say it was a bad signing. CJ is more valuable & reliable IMO & he's been knocked out 2 years in a row.

But yeah I think he's gonna have a hard time making the roster.

I guess I don't remember his specific injuries.

I don't think he counts toward the cap if we cut him so I don't think there is any had signing with on it. He'll either be worth his salary or get cut

Ellington is fragile, he'll be hurt at any moment anyways.. whether he runs out of bounds, or squirms for extra yardage - one way or another, he's gonna come up lame. We've seen it time and time again.

may as well admit it...it isn't as if he can deny it when everyone sees.

dude is a finesse runner,...but he does not use finesse at the end of runs...problematic

LOL - hasn't started yet. He was "falling down" against Dallas and Oakland already.
He'll be playing center, guard and tackle.

He'll be sitting in the middle of the bench guarding the water cooler and if anyone gets a sip before he does he'll tackle them.

I think his career in AZ is most likely over, but not sure why most posters are so hard on the guy... his body is just not built to be a feature back.

I will forever remember his sweep run for the TD against the Seahawks that sealed our win in Seattle (the Drew dance play). If he were our #1 option right now at RB and he came out and said this, sure, we all have a right to be mad. But since his days are most likely over, and we're spoiled at RB with the Johnson's, I'll choose to remember the good he brought in his first year or two. It's like parting on good terms with an ex that treated you decently but the two weren't compatible at the end... Oh well, just my two cents.

Ellington is insanely successful as a 6th round pick. Based on cards standards anyhow. He has some big touchdowns, especially against Seattle. The talk in this thread would make some believe he was a first or second round pick.
