So tell me, what kind of contract is TT and his 11 ppg, 5 boards and 2.3 assists, 6'10 frame worth in your opnion in today's NBA?

I don't think it matters. Fans can argue till they are blue in the face about whether a player deserves a contract or not (Marion? Diaw? Banks?)... But the reality is, at their current salary, would Tim Thomas be a better option than Marcus Banks? You better believe it. :D

On some days, TT is totally worth his contract, but on a lot of other days, he isn't. It's the nature of the beast.

I disagree. The Phoenix Suns do not value late first-round draft picks. We can argue (and we have) here about whether that is a bad philosophy, both the idea that they just don't value first-round draft picks is wrong.

I think Tim Thomas comes across as just being kind of lazy. IIRC he wasn't Mike D'Antoni's favorite guy.

Joe

There's always the #7 pick the Suns traded to Chicago to support the argument the Suns do not value first round picks in recent years. They could have selected Iggy or Deng.

Your probably right that TT was not D'Antoni's type player, but at least he could play and fit the Suns needs perfectly because of his ability to play all three front line positions.

I can agree with this for the most part, but I think what it really boils down to is that on a lot of days TT is probably worth more than his contract and on a lot of days, he's probably isn't. We all know that consistency is ultimately the biggest flaw in TT's game, but at the MLE, you're not going to get upper tier players for the most part.. you're going to get somewhat flawed, mid-level guys, which is exactly what TT is. I mean, if you want to talk about completely flawed bigs not deserving their contract, TT is pretty far down the list from guys like Gadzuric, Milicic, Kwame Brown, Radmanovich, Donyell Marshall, Jerome James, Malik Rose, even our own Boris Diaw and on and on. I mean, those are the type of guys that, yeah, you could say aren't worth anything close to their contract, but TT? Nah. He's pretty much right at the right level for a player of his production.

I agree, but there are bigger mistakes that could be made financially like Adonal Foyle or even Dampier. I really think TT's contract with the Clippers was reasonable.

I'm not really sure what you think you can get for 6 mill/year (and please don't use the exception to the rule with Barbs, who is pretty much the biggest steal in the entire league at his contract, which you and I both know).

And don't forget those stats are in 27 minutes a game, unlike most other teams with people playing around 35 mpg.

Kwame Brown has his warts, but there aren't a lot of teams out there that would take Tim Thomas over him. I think Donyell Marshall would look every bit as good as Tim Thomas in a Phoenix Suns uniform. Actually he's probably not quite as good as TT in the post.
