bumpity bump bump...

I can't believe the 30th anniversary of his death passed yesterday with nary a word from anyone here (myself included). It just slipped by me.

Hope you're resting in peace, Elvis!

Elvis is Alive 5k

August 11, 2007, Chicago, IL

In Lincoln Park on the running path, north of Fullerton at Cannon Drive

The Elvis is Alive 5K was voted one of the top wackiest races in the country by Runner's World Magazine.

Come out and run one of the only Saturday night runs in Chicago. Run a great 5k course through beautiful Lincoln Park and finish the evening with a great Elvis celebration in the park. Including treats from our sponsors and beer (for participants 21 and over).

It\'s a party in the park with Elvis!

I ran in this!

Cool! I know you mentioned that you ran in a 5k, but you didn't mention (that I recall) what the cause was. That was on my mom's b-day. Sounds like it was a fun time!

They are releasing Elvis DVD boxsets, including music and his movies. I was never a big Elvis fan.

My favorite Elvis song? Suspicious Minds!

We're caught in a trap
I cant walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Man, these lyrics are poignant today, with all this stuff going on:

Using blues, swing, & country as spark in the 1950's Elvis poured on the gasoline! Elvis AM (after movies) 1968 comeback special OMG what a performer. 1973 Aloha from Hawaii a huge undertaking at the time! Ronnie Tutt keeping time for the Taking Care of Business Band! Ron still tours with Neil Diamond & does the Elvis Lives gigs with the TCB guys!

I was never a fan of the movies; to be honest I don't even know if I've ever seen one in its entirety, but I sure do love his music.

LB, Hal Wallace's Elvis movies from the early to mid 60's all pretty much used the same premise. Girl (of course), girl has problem, girl meets Elvis character, girl doesn't like Elvis character, Elvis character likes girl, Elvis character fixes girls problem, Elvis character sings song, Elvis character & girl ride off on cool motorized vehicle. I hate to admit it but when they are on I do still try to watch them. I missed Clambake last night! LOL

I can't say I dislike his movies or acting; just never got to them. I should probably sit through a few since I consider myself an Elvis fan. :)

I decided to listen to all my Elvis music as a tribute today, and guess what song came up first in the shuffle?

I'm way too lazy to go to all the work to copy that pic in here, so just pretend for me, okay?
but it really was Suspicious Minds

Great singer and songwriter. Wish he would have stuck to those, rather than acting as well.

Ummm... no he wasn't. He didn't write his music, others did. As a song writer he sucked, never had a hit. He was an entertainer and as for the song writing you can show the props to Joel Hirschhorn and others.

That's what has bothered me most about Elvis, how in the world can someone be called the "King" when he could barely play guitar and couldn't write to save his life.

He was a solid entertainer IMO, but not a true musician. Just my opinion, not trying to upset the Elvis fans of which I am not.

Just correcting the incorrectly informed is all. Praise him all you wish, but praise him for stuff he actually did. That was copying black musicians and bringing THEIR stuff to the mainstream who where not color blind in that day.

Grrr...;)

I knew he didn't write his own music. It wasn't uncommon back then at all.

For a few white mainstream "musicians", no it wasn't. Buddy Holly wrote his own stuff though whom I concider 100x the artist as you know who. Neil Diamond and Bob Dylan wrote so much they sold much of it to others.

While I am certainly no fan of Elvis, I do respect what he accomplished.

Therefore, not uncommon to have your music written by others.
