The reason that I don't want Emmitt here is that I think that we should spend our remaining cap money on defense.

That, of course, makes you one of the smartest SOB's on this board. :D But this time I'm on the other side of the coin. There's the whole 'mental' side of the game, and the boost a guy like Smith can give this franchise will be huge. Alone, the guy will easily double revenue on jersey's, etc. Making us more competitive on signing bonuses BEFORE the stadium money kicks in. I was against this idea at first, but I've come around. Any final doubt was erased yesterday when I heard Jeff Blake get excited, like a little kid almost, during an interview on XTRA910 about the prospect of having Smith join the team. Just his presence will boost the team's enthusiasm and confidence, and those two things can help you win. He'll be worth it.

Thansk AJ and maybe I am a overly close minded on this issue. But I just dont see how a few jerseys and and stuff like that will help overcome the turmoil that could come in the locker room if Emmitt is not getting his carries!

I appreciate the nice comments!

One thing that I seem to totally disagree with you about Smith....he is not the whiner type, and I think that you are calling him that.

I think that Shipp would(and will if he signs) beat him out. Smith will rest him, and play when/or if Shipp gets hurt.

I agree. I would like to see it closer to the minimum, but that is probably not realistic.

However, I could see the Cards giving the guy a 3 year deal, at around 2.5 million a year. That seems to be an approximation of the figure the Cards use when they over pay a guy that is less than a star player. It is an amount that others may not pay for the talent left in a Smith, but still affordable to the Bidwills from a PR standpoint (IMO). But again, I think it would be too much for a runningback in the twilight of his career.

But, if Smith signs with the Cards, I hope he proves to have some gas left in the tank. I will cheer if the guy has success in a Cards uniform.

Yes he has been a malcontent he has complained in Dallas for the last two years about carries he feels he should have gotten and didnt. So what are you talking about?

I applaud Emmitt for wanting the ball. He is still a tremendous talent and The best player they have had on the team since Aikman and Cokehead left the team. He should complain about not getting the ball in Dallas when they lost all those games.
