I think right in the ballpark with the S Davis deal for less years....... I believe davis signed for 5 yrs $15 millon.... so $3 Millon per year.... He was the front runner in free agency.... 3 year deal for Emmitt..... about 9 to 11 Millon.... in that ballpark

I voted Yes, it will be good in a non-football way, I think it will be good for the Cards image.

Yes. You can't have too many good RBs.

Rod Graves said he would not guarantee Emmit Smith anything as far as playing time and carries. Based on that, sign him.

Who cares what Rod graves told him!

The simple fact is that when Shipp beats him out for the position whcih he would do if its a "fair" competition. Emmitt will start crying and cause uneeded heartache and distraction on this team!

NO THANKS!

Yes.

We need quality depth at RB.

He still has 1,000 yard potential.

He knows what it takes to win and can impart this to our younger players - regardless of where they play.

He can help make Marcel an even better RB.

Who cares how man sets they are in?? The bottom line is the ball could only be handed off to one back at a time PERIOD! Regardless if they are both in there. You think as long as Emmitt is in but yet hes a blocker hes going to be happy? Get real!

Plus why would we have the two of them in at the same time on running plays doesnt that defeat the purpose of signing Hodgins???

Dude, your dislike for signing Smith is starting to taint your objectiveness. Smith has NEVER been a malcontent, and he would accept whatever role he was given.

Well, what do you do when Shipp gets injured?

Start Anderson or Scobey? No thank you.

Is that anything like Ed bs or someone elses love for Emmitt is tainting there objectiveness?

Krang Im not objective to this. Its a BAD IDEA PERIOD!

Yes he has been a malcontent he has complained in Dallas for the last two years about carries he feels he should have gotten and didnt. So what are you talking about?

You honestly think if they tell Emmitt hey Shipp beat you out and you are only going to get about 8 carries a game that he wouldnt complain?? WAKE UP BRO!

I think it is a great idea. I think Emmitt is a man of character. Obviously I think he would probably only sign a two or three year contract, and Shipp would still get carries and learn from one of the best to play the game. Smith still had almost a thousand yards last year. He's got gas left in the tank and would be a tremendous value to this team, in more ways than one.

Exactly! My point proven right from your mouth!

And he complained because the Cowboys tried to get cute early in games by trying to pass too much, and not give Emmitt the carries he needed. I would have complained myself. Look how bad his offensive line was, his QB, etc.

He never flew off the handle (ala Kwamie Lassiter) he said things that were totally appropriate for a competitor and a hall of fame back that is still very capable.

No thats not why he complained. He complained because they were giving more carries to Hambrick and the other RB I think his name is Wiley! He has been a malcontent and you still didnt answer my ?

Do you really think if Emmitt is told he will be only spelling Shipp for 8 to 10 carries a game hi isnt going to raise a stink??? BE HONEST!

Why should I be objective to something that is a BAD IDEA and ids simply a PR move???

But you are NOT being objective at all. Shipp has proven NOTHING in this league. He is a nice player, but Emmitt is still about as good.

I agree to disagree...:D. I believe that you are wrong, and you believe that I am wrong. But I still like your zeal and passion for this team!

Sorry were pals and all but if at this point in Emmitts career you think he is about as good as Shipp then please hand me some of what it is your smoking.

Emmitt is nowhere near the physical specimen that Shipp is. He doesnt have Shipps burst to the hole anymore and he just isnt as fast as Shipp is and thats pretty sad especially when people complain about Shipps speed!

The only thing I will say Emmit is better at is blocking and that is the one thing for a RB thats coachable so it can be fixed! So no problemo there with Shipp!

The Cards saw what Shipp could do and they smartly locked him up for the next four years at very nice but reasonable salary before he had another big year and would have to really shell out the cash! They know he is starter material and so does everyone else!

Oh I agree somewhat, but Smith knows the game better, doesn't fumble, is a 10 times better blocker, and is a tough player.

If Smith wants more than 1.5 million, I wouldn't want to sign him.

The bottom line is that if Emmitt comes here I will root for him because hes on this team but mark my words he will be beat out by Shipp if its a "fair" competition and he will end up complaining.

I would just rather save the heartache!

Shipp is tough too he did play through the rest of the Giants game with a badly sprained knee and still came like 5 yards short of a hundred. he then came back twoo weeks later and played again when he was projected as out for up to four weeks! The guy lays iton the line so I dont think you can question his toughness!

Shane, I'd say we've seen eye to eye on 90+% on issues regarding the Cardinals over the last few years. That, of course, makes you one of the smartest SOB's on this board. :D But this time I'm on the other side of the coin. There's the whole 'mental' side of the game, and the boost a guy like Smith can give this franchise will be huge. Alone, the guy will easily double revenue on jersey's, etc. Making us more competitive on signing bonuses BEFORE the stadium money kicks in. I was against this idea at first, but I've come around. Any final doubt was erased yesterday when I heard Jeff Blake get excited, like a little kid almost, during an interview on XTRA910 about the prospect of having Smith join the team. Just his presence will boost the team's enthusiasm and confidence, and those two things can help you win. He'll be worth it.
