The pay reaises under Bush 1 were outstanding, I wasnt in during Reagan but from all my friends those were the best years. Clinton flew into Bosnia, were I stood guard for him (6 feet away with a fully loaded 9 mm, ohhhh the temptations lol) He ate lobster in a beautiful hotel served by the military, flew home and said he never knew the military had it so good, lobster almost everyday. (they flew it in special for him, we didnt even have chow halls or showers for 9 months.

I'm also in the "Fear of being laid off any time" crew. My company will be laying off around 100 people by the end of this month. This will be the second installment of layoffs this year, and there are more projected to happen by the end of the year.

I wish I could be a full-time Avenger. I need a Visa comercial to get me started.

My support for soldiers is not doubt (at least to me). I have many friends that have been, or are still in the service. I can not speak of the situation of every soldier, so I try to concentrate on those who serve locally. I have written and emailed my senators and representives in the past to get them to try to speed up the replacement of the housing at Fort Campbell, much of which dates to WWII. It was scheduled to be replaced starting next year, but the current admin is postponing that until at least 2007 - saying they need to spend the money on weapons, etc. I also contribute to the funds established locally to help support the spouses/children of those soldiers who have left their families behind here in TN while in Iraq.

Dback Jon thanks for helping out our fellow military members. I tip my hat to you sir! 19 yrs in the Navy and still working 12-14 hr days. When i was a E-3 and just married with my daughter we didn't make enought to get by. I hate to say this but we were on food stamps until i made E-4. That lasted about 9 months. I had to hide the fact to everybody about me being on Food Stamps ( I guess I am too proud ). I am an E-6 in the Navy and we still
don't get enought pay for what we do and what we give up in our liberites. But I would do it over again if my country asked me.

Proud to be a Military Member!!

I started a small service business back in '96 when I was 25 years old. It did decently well for me, but I got bored with it after 5-6 years. Sold about 80% of the business a couple years ago because I decided to go back to school and finish my degree in Architecture. Even had the wife's blessing too! :)

Graduated with a 3.8. Got the first job I applied for, and was totally excited to start this new career at the age of 32. After about 4 weeks on the new job, I realized I missed something that really made me go. LOTS of RESPONSIBILITY! So I left the company on my own accord after appx. 3 months.

The new job of course had some responibilities, but no where near the responsibilities self-employment offers. I realized I needed that, and was used to wearing all the different hats a small business owner wears. The way this particular office worked "personnel wise"...it would have taken 5-10 years to inherit all those responibilities. ARRRGGGHHH!

Had I started this new career as a young buck back in my 20's, I'm sure I would have loved it! But the experience of being your own boss pretty much tainted it for me. Oh well...I beat myself up the past 6 months coming to terms of "what was I thinking", but thankfully things are almost cool again. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, and I suppose I'm glad I did it. There's a way to use my education by tying it in with my old gig. So I'm back to doing the small businees thing, and things should be back to normal at the end of the summer! Probably won't be able to afford Cardinal tickets this year, but certainly the following season! :) Anyways, that's my life....

Accusing someone of being non-supportive of troops because they don't agree with a politician is along the same lines as troops in the 60s being called 'babykiller' because they wore a uniform. Not as bad but you are making an assumption.

His original post was slanted to how much we get paid..... not about politics, at least I didn't read it that way.
I hope everyone supports the military.
I was being sarcastic, because thats the way his post come off.
I would have done the same as Mike and would do it again if asked.
I didn't accuse him of anything, I just didn't agree or appreciate the slant I took his post to mean......... and instead of being nasty about it I thanked him for his support.
Sorry you feel that way.

Sorry about any misunderstanding. I know Jon. He's very much an American and proud of it. He's supportive of our troops. He just leans to the left politically. Once again, sorry about any misunderstanding

some things....

Schecter Elite 4 bass.
In today's dollars, Minimum wage was $8/hr in 1968. The richest 1% of Americans controlled 30% of total American wealth. Today, they control 40%. I don't recall America being a socialist country in '68, nor do i recall homeless rich people. Things aren't bad enough for there to be a working class uprising, but if present trends continue...
I am decently employed full time, w/ decent benefits. I bought the materials that the co. i work for made the Cardinals Monday Night Live set. If you need a killer remodel for your retail space, or a kickass tradeshow display, look up southwestscenic.com

Just accepted a new job yesterday. Made a decent jump in salary but my job is only through the next 18 months and then it is over no matter what.

I am really excited about it - made a jump up to a higher level of responsibility. Thing is, I expect to probably be working 12 - 14 hour days for the majority of the next year and a half.

I too am a vet but have been out for almost ten years. Last year I got laid off twice in the same year. I landed a job in Feb of this year that relocated me to Texas from Oregon where I had just built a house that I had to sell after living in it for les than two years. Now my company in Texas is looking to downsize. Yep. I'm the newbie so guess who's getting a bone job? Well, I can always see if this path leads me to AZ. Instead of flying to games, maybe I can drive to them! Good luck to everyone that is looking and good luck to those of you still gainfully employed.
