As much as Hall's performance last week was disappointing...for ANYONE to write him off after 2 starts is just plain myopic.
Ron Jaworski himself should know better than anyone. Here were his stats over his first three years in the league, which included three starts:
54/124 43% 739 5.9 yds./att 1 TD 8 ints.
Not sure if any pundits were jumping on his bandwagon at that point.
Sure, we see that Hall lacks proto-typical QB size and arm strength. But, his strengths are supposed to be accuracy, timing, escapability and grittiness. We have already seen flashes of all of those attributes.
Could he have completed the long pass to Fitz last week? Of course, he could have...he had plenty on it, it was thrown too wide to the left.
At this point, no one can possibly know whether Hall can start in this league or not.
I think the bye week hurt Hall because he had too much time to think. I think he over-prepared. There is such a thing.
Whiz is right to simplify the game plan this week...and work diligently on a couple of handfuls of passing plays, so as to perfect the timing and the progressions.
What concerns me the most and I think most of you agree---which is why I thought Whiz--after last week's concussion---would go back to DA---is Hall's ability to hang in there physically.
Once he gets up to the speed of the game, I think he will be crafty enough to feel the pressure sooner and to duck the big hits. Right now he's so locked into his reads that he's not sensing the pressure the way he should or the way he did in the pre-season. This is the key to his game, imo. He can think fast on his feet, and he's slippery.
If Hall were as under-skilled as Jaws makes him out to be, he would have never made the impression he did this TC. And the impression he made wasn't just on Whiz and the staff...it was made on several national reporters who visited camp.
If anything all the odds were stacked against Hall in TC. He rose from obscurity and persevered for a reason. What he needs now is to get himself accustomed to the speed of the game, and to heighten his awareness. His instincts will kick in at some point, as long as he keeps his head up and avoids the big hits.
