I would really hate to see us give up the versatility of Counsell. Granted last year he struggled coming back after injury, but he was a good clutch hitter. He's played on two WS teams, can deal with pressure, has a lot of spunk. Spivey, on the other hand, looked lost most of last year and then there was the grumbling about playing the OF...

I have the exact same injury that Counsell has and consulted the same surgeon that did Counsell's surgery. The surgeon told me that having the surgery would not gaurentee that the injury wouldn't reoccur in the future.

I really hope Counsell does well but I wouldn't mind seeing him go. The Dbacks have enough players that are perpetually injured.

Good point, Devilalum. Nice to have some inside info on the injury. What do we know about Sexon's demeanor/personality?? Won't be sorry to see Overbay go---he was starting to remind me of Travis Lee :barf:

Hardly a steal...

Not if reports that the D'backs will actually pay Counsell's salary are true. Additionally, Overbay is vastly underrated (as only Gonzo had a better OBP last season), and 22 year old De La Rosa was the best talent to come over in the Schilling deal. The left handed pitcher is rated VERY highly (3rd best overall pitching prospect among all MLB farm teams).

IF the D'backs only have Sexson as a one-year rent-a-player, then THEY got ripped off.

I do not like seeing either Counsell or Spivey go, unless a two year extention is involved with Sexson's contract. Unless there is an extention, the trade for four players just makes no sense! Hopefully, this detail is part of the bargain.

According to the Tribune:

There has been no contact between him and the D-Backs regarding an extension, and every indication is he would be a “rent-a-player” — acquired for one year and then allowed to sign elsewhere as the Arizona payroll drops dramatically.

You guys don't really think Joe is making these decisions, do you. Jerry is cutting payroll and Joe Jr. is doing the best he can to keep the team competitive. I appreciate it personally, because I already have paid for my tickets.
