Hi everyone! This is my first post! I notice that some Milwaukee and Dodger fans aren't to happy about this trade. I wonder if we'll trade some of the guys we got from Boston for another top player?

Overbay, Spivey, Capuano, AND Counsell for Richie Sexson?? I guess the Boston pick-ups either made quite an impression, or came very cheap!! Regardless, I am very happy we got the guy we wanted!

I always thought that Chris Capuano was weak, so I am glad he is gone. I really think the D'backs are going to rue the day they got rid of Spivey.......

Overbay never tickled my fancy and Counsell was a versital bench player and an underrated fielder IMO

Fossum isn't going to amount to much as a major leaguer I would bet. We can all explore the merits of these trades 3 years from now, but I bet Capuano will outperform Fossum

capuano

i heard the brewers wanted capuano from the beginning but the diamondbacks didn't want to give him up. getting fossum and the other young pitchers made capuano more expendable so the diamondbacks were more willing to part with him. i like the trade alot, and it makes the schilling trade look better as well.

I do not like seeing either Counsell or Spivey go, unless a two year extention is involved with Sexson's contract. Unless there is an extention, the trade for four players just makes no sense! Hopefully, this detail is part of the bargain.

Crap, I really liked Spivey and Counsell. Don't the Brewers have an already decent 2B? At least Counsell gets to play in his hometown.

I just have this uneasy feeling that we gave up a little too much for Sexson...

I never saw much in Capuano. I know he had surgery but his fastball was topping at 89 mph. I have seen Fossum pitch many times and he will be better than Capuano. Casey needs to find a third pitch. I am sad that Spivey is gone but Kata has some talent. I am glad De La Rosa was not traded. They need to sign Sexson to an extension.

Most people think the Brewers got screwed on this deal. Got this one from Rotoworld.

Rotoworld:

Quote:
ESPN Radio 1000 is reporting that the Diamondbacks will acquire Richie Sexson from the Brewers for Junior Spivey, Lyle Overbay, Craig Counsell and Chris Capuano. The deal will become official on Monday, the station reports. It's a poor trade for the Brewers if true. Spivey's a quality player and Overbay will be a decent first baseman until Cecil Fielder is ready, but Counsell's contract is a big negative and Capuano is nothing special at all. The Brewers should be getting more than this if the $3.4 million remaining on Counsell's contract is involved.

I'm betting they had to get rid of Junior and Counsel so they could sign Sexson to an extension. I looked forward to watching Capuano after the second time he came up, but you have to give up something to get something. Wouldn't surprise me to see Junior go to the all star game again. As long as Sexson works out I hope so.

I hope we did not give De La Rosa. He has more potential than Capuano.

Repulsive says both sides have stated that the names being bandied about are the wrong ones. Guess we'll find out when we find out.

Brewers deny report of Sexson deal

By_Steve Gilbert_/_MLB.com

PHOENIX -- A Chicago radio station reported Saturday that the Milwaukee Brewers and Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed in principle on a five-player deal that would send slugging first baseman Richie Sexson to Arizona.

A Brewers spokesperson Saturday night called the report "erroneous," however, and Diamondbacks officials declined to comment.

ESPN Radio 1000 in Chicago reported that Arizona would trade second baseman Junior Spivey, first baseman Lyle Overbay, versatile infielder Craig Counsell and lefthander Chris Capuano to the Brewers in exchange for Sexson, after the players completed physicals Monday.

"I think it's speculation about a trade," D-Backs general manager Joe Garagiola Jr. said Saturday. "And I'm not going to speculate on trades."

The Diamondbacks finalized a deal on Friday that sent Curt Schilling to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for four players. Team officials said that trade is a precursor to more moves.

"We're not finished," Colangelo said Friday. "(The Schilling trade) is a first step ... This is not our final roster by any means."

Sexson, who hit .272 with 45 homers and 124 RBIs last season, would give the D-Backs a much-needed offensive jolt. The 6-8 first baseman has long been rumored to be a target for the offense-hungry D-Backs. Some early reports of the Schilling trade incorrectly indicated it would be a three-way swap with Arizona sending the players it acquired from Boston to Milwaukee in exchange for Sexson.

I would really hate to see us give up the versatility of Counsell. Granted last year he struggled coming back after injury, but he was a good clutch hitter. He's played on two WS teams, can deal with pressure, has a lot of spunk. Spivey, on the other hand, looked lost most of last year and then there was the grumbling about playing the OF...

I might be wrong, but I think they are denying this deal because it can not go thru until Schilling passes his physical on Monday. We wouldnt be able to trade De Le Rosa until that happens.

wow, i'll be shocked if we are able to get sexson without giving up spivey, that would be great though, it would give us flexability for future deals.

You are right, Richie Sexton will be accompanying Curt to his physical.

The domino effect is beginning in the wake of the Curt Schilling deal.

ESPN has learned that the Milwaukee Brewers are set to send first baseman Richie Sexson to the Diamondbacks for infielder Craig Counsell, first baseman Lyle Overbay and minor-league pitcher Jorge De La Rosa, who was one of four players acquired by Arizona in the deal for Schilling.

The deal is pending Schilling's physical exam, which is scheduled for Monday. Until Schilling passes his physical, his move to the Red Sox is technically not complete.

Once it is official, De La Rosa will be on the Diamondbacks' roster, and Arizona and Milwaukee will be able to complete their deal.

Sexson is one of the game's premier sluggers, hitting 45 home runs with 124 RBI last season.
