I don't hear anyone from the organization stepping forward to debunk any of these reports either

I'm not saying they should or shouldn't cut him, but if that's their plan, it makes sense to do it sooner than later. That way all 3 QBs can get work in the final pre season game. If Matt gets cut, I think he ends up in Seattle. Hassleback is near the end and injury prone. He battles Whitehurst for the back up role and could eventually be starting if Hassleback's back acts up again.

That's probably because no one in the Cards organization has heard anything about them. I'm sure they aren't worried about what a couple of ESPN pundits have to say about them.

I suppose that could be true....Why glorify the nonsense with a response?? You have to know the players have heard all about it. It's not like they don't watch ESPN

Actually I'd like to keep all four QBs but I know that is not possible. However, Ken Whisenthunt has given the Cardinals more hope than I have ever experienced as a Cardinals fan. Therefore I put my faith he will make the right decision at QB.

I definitely want to keep Skleton and Hall because I think they eventually represent the future for the Cardinals at QB. I think it will be a matter of which QB Whisenthunt believes that can successfully transition the Cardinals into the future. I'm not sold on Anderson or Leinart. If Hall were not so good (I don't want to let him go), I would keep the three other QBs and let Leinart and Anderson duke it until a clear winner emerges. Somebody needs to be able to throw the long ball to make the Cardinals really good. Is that Leinart?

It would be borderline insanity to cut Leinart.

What happens if DA crashes and burns early in the season? Are you seriously going to trust the back up duties to a fifth round rookie or an UDFA?

MAYBE if we had a Manning/Brees/Brady type QB, you could do something like this. But DA is far, far away from any of those guys, and if he goes 2-17 in game four, and we need a miracle to save our season, Matty, with three years in the system MIGHT be able to get it done. Skelton or Hall might win a game, or maybe even two. No way they are able to salvage the season though.

I watched the game today by the way. Both guys looked pretty good.

Just want to point out that guys like DA are going to be available just about every year. Don't tell me that DA is going to pull a Warner. Never, ever, going to happen. He is what he is. A marginal starter that you might get some decent mileage from in a pinch (sorry DA, but they gave you plenty of rope in CLE).

Is anyone here really sure what we have in matty though? I'm not, and I want to find out. That's why I start him game one.

Edit to rephrase my reference to DA.

^ Agree 100% Crimson we as fans and organization need to SEE what Leinart has in REAL games this season to know how to move forward. DA provides us nothing except maybe a veteran backup if Matt is not the guy. You have to HAVE TO give him the chance or your just throwing a 1st Pick away!

you sure it wasn't a replay of yesterday's interview? ESPN radio does that a lot on Sundays with interviews from Saturday night.

I think it was the replay of yesterdays interview before the game. If it wasn't they did a pretty good job of re-enactment.

Well since they rattled off both of the QBs stats from LAST NIGHTS game..I doubt it. It was with the news of McNabb may not start season opener. It was Timm on the phone and not in the studio. Listen...I am not 7 and was watching Nick at Night.

Odd. The segment I saw had Tim in studio and he mentioned Matt was 9-10 last night. No mention at all of him being cut. Are you sure you weren't watching Wally and the Beav talking about Mariellen Rogers on the phone?

Well, you're right on the interview aspect but as I've mentioned before, I think you're wrong on your initial report. It was clearly today's phone interview and not the studio interviews of yesterday. I've watched them all though and there was nothing of substance to warrant this thread. It wasn't the "ESPN has learned" kind of thing you make it out to be.

Very misleading. Unless I missed something they're just talking about the same rumors and speculation that we've been discussing. Tim Hasselbeck (coincidentally at 6:20 PM Sunday on ESPNEWS) for example just said: "There's certainly plenty of people that think Leinart's days in Arizona could be numbered". It's not a like a new report is out nor did I hear anyone say anything about rumblings from Cards headquarters.

Steve

We should get some ideas from practice this week? There could be a problem beyond football for which ownership may not want to comment. The fact that ownership has not stepped up to debunk all this tells you something.

Matt said He wants to play where He's wanted, He hopes it's Arizona. Can't blame him for that. He's a keeper I'm not throwing him back, but I aint the Decider.

I work at ESPN and called up the room record and listened to the entire interview. He said there is a report Leinart could be cut. That is word for word..
Uhh...right.

What report? Whose report? When was it issued? What sources? Anything to corroborate it?

What's missing from the "word for word" is any credible detail (about par for ESPN lately).

To me it sounds more like, "Brett Favre is now in camp, so we have to find another pony to ride."

I'm really curious about what happens with Matt. He's been o.k., but I think a lot of QBs can do what he does which is basically running a short pass game. Has he completed more than a few 10+ yard passes this pre-season? I think the poor guy just has a noodle for an arm, and doesn't have the anticipation and brains to overcome his physical limits.

You guys should snag Chase Daniel when we try and stick him on the practice squad. :)

ESPN needs to devote more time proofreading their articles, and presenting relevant sports-news stories...and less time spreading rumors, innuendos, and engaging in outright unfounded conjecture to "drum up business".

It makes them seem more like Us magazine or The National Enquirer than a legitimate source of sports information.

Whatever sells I guess.

I have some serious issues with ESPN but I don't think they are the problem at least as far as this thread goes. The OP clearly either misinterpreted or misstated the gist of the ESNPNEWS broadcast. ESPN did not try and pass off this story as a credible report.

Well...Do you want to make a little bet...I say Leinart is cut by this Friday if Whiz announces DA as the starter. But his Presser after the game and all the reports lead to this happening.

Whiz even made an excuse for him naming DA the starter. HE said....This isn't ALL ABOUT STATS! SO he even shot down what Leinart and his supporters have been screaming...Whiz basically said I am not suing stats to make my decision.

I dont think Anderson is the answer...but I can read what Whiz is saying.

I sure do not see Matt being cut even if he is not the starter. To much money involved to just throw it in the trash. Matt could come out and say he want play and wants a trade. I doubt many teams would be jumping to sign him as they would have the same concerns our staff apparently has and would not be ready to pay 11 mil next year. Sounds like Matt thinks his time has come whether DA plays better than him or not. If he is butting heads with Whiz he is going to lose as Whiz is going to play the best player be it Matt or DA.
