This mornings trivia question on ESPN Radio (Mike & Mike) was "Who ranks #2 (behind Otis Anderson) on the Cardinals all time rushing list?"

Lot's of laughing as everyone tried to come up with the answer. Most guesses were along the lines of "Well, I know I'm #3, so number 2 must be......"

Also, "Emmit will be #2 by week 3" was another popular guess.

I don't know that I've ever given my radio the "bird" before, but it got it more than a few times today.

While I was initially psyched to hear a Cards trivia question on a national program, the whoe event made for a fairly dissapointing morning overall.

(BTW, correct answer is Stump Mitchell)

Go Cards!!!

Stump? That is a good one. My first guess would have been John David Crow! F*** ESPN! Another Clear Channel clone.

is every meaningless press conference held by bill parcells on espn? He is on constantly ..I know ESPN thinks that parcells gives good soundbites...but there are guys like Mac who are better..I know...he turned around 3 teams...lets see how he does with the Cowboys now that the Salary Cap is such a big issue..

I just don't get how you guys think that the Cards organization should get any respect from the national media. They don't deserve it and history supports that. You guys shouldn't be all shocked or dumbfounded when the Cards get bagged in the media. If you really like the team, as we all do, then it shouldn't matter. It is a painful task year after year to be a Cards fan and the organization deserves no respect....

Oh, and ESPN is stupid for bagging them? Any time ESPN says anything good about the Cards, you guys hang all over it with pride. ESPN is just giving the Cards organization what it deserves. Pick your side....

Dude, you're way frickin' off here. It's one thing for a PROFESSIONAL sports personality to call it like it is, but it is by far another thing for a SO-CALLED professional laughing outright at a team, especially for a length of time. It's not right, it's not fair and it's not professional. It'd be like the President of the U.S. laughing when Congress presents him a bill he's going to veto. Yeah, everyone knows he's going to veto it anyway. To laugh about it is just plain insulting.

Not surprising. In fact, I'd be shocked if ESPN missed any opportunity to bag on our birds. But hey, we need to stick it out and be smiling when things go our way. Eventually they will.

Are you serious? Johnny Johnson, Earl Ferrel, Ron Moore, Garrison Hearst and the list goes on probably had more yards than he did.

Seeds of Hate, with this post, I now realize why you picked that name. If you feel that way about the team, why do you remain a fan?

Maybe because he is loyal? Good lord - don;'t ask this question to people who say they are Cardinals fans. It's tough enough as it is.

I think your analogy equates much more importance to the game of football than it deserves. Its a pastime, an entertainment venue.

Id more likely make this analogy.

Everyone should be personally offended by the unprofesional way movie critics are out and out laughing about and criticizing Gigli.

See my point?

DO you think the things he is saying is wrong? I am as optomistic as it gets about the team getting better.

But he is right about everything he says in there, the team is in the gutter every year. Why would they even think about us being any good?

Everyone gets offended by a rip, well untill we win guess what!!! Were gunna get ripped! Either laugh about it, or cry its your choise. But either way, untill we win it wont stop. Nor can we expect some respect.

*Shrug* Think what you want. I just hope that you find something you really want to do, fail continuously, and instead of being critiqued or anything by your boss/friends/spouse/critics, you get mocked, laughed at and derided.

It's a professional business. There's no call for a professional to act unprofessional. It makes them look stupid and detracts from their credibility. But I guess since it's only football, it's okay.

Btw, a movie and a sports team is by far an inadequate analogy. Does the movie come out every year? Does it have the chance to improve it's product? Does it...never mind, you aren't going to listen anyway.

Too Bad

If ESPN has never heard of John David Crow then that's there problem. He was one of the best running backs in the NFL in his time. He was 6'2"-220 and could catch the ball....had moves...decent speed for his size....and could block. What else do ya want for a tailback?

He and Larry Wilson were 2 of the reasons I started rooting for the Cards....great athletes.....great people.

Hey, I dont think you give me enough credit here, dude. I responded once to you and all of a sudden Im incapable of listening to opposing viewpoints? Hoping for me to fail? harsh. And right when I'm in the middle of embarking on a new career.

I just feel that regardless of football's business side, to its fans its entertainment. if its anything more, I think its taken too seriously. And what do radio pundits and writers do for a living? They talk about football. Much in the way movie reviewers review movies. I think its a much more equitable anaolgy, but I do see your point that history should not have much bearing on how a team is currently percieved, especially when the cast of players this year is so much different than last.

However, ownership is the same, and we ALL know that when laughing at the cards, the first chuckle goes to ownership, and the rest just falls in line behind. Its painful, but until we win, people can say whatever they want about us in my opinion. It doesnt affect the way I feel about my team, so why would I care?

Sorry man, I didn't REALLY mean I hoped you'd fail. I was just trying to use it as an example. Unfortunately, it's nigh on impossible to emote properly on a message board, and due to computer difficulties, I can't use any of the smilies. I actually wish you well! It was just an example.

I understand the viewpoint of it's just a game, and that the sports writers/casters need something to do. I just think you can rip a team without having to laugh at them. Do it with class. Stick to the facts. Just my 2 cents.
