It's hard to imagine them not trading for a legit #2 starter now that Greinke is on board. He is awesome but alone it only takes the rotation from below average to slightly above. Hopefully they can swing a deal for Corrasco.

Great move! Having a true ace was hampering this team, now if they add 1 more quality arm they should be set.

Don't know if it's accurate since it's different from what's been reported, but listening to an ESPN video this morning they said the new D-back cable deal is worth 1.5 billion over 10 years. If true we may have quite a bit more money to spend as 1.5 over 10 is alot more then 1 over 20. Like 3x as much as we thought. Hopefully that's true.

I got home late Friday night and didn't check in online. And I slept in for awhile this morning.

WOW!!! I don't need a Christmas gift. I just got it.

We now have our 1A and are still looking for a 1B. And we have a solid #3.

The hope that Tony La Russa for the D-backs would produce has been fulfilled. How ironic that it comes in the era of new uniforms.

I believe that Greinke chose Phoenix because he is clearly The Man with us. The Diamondbacks, with our young core of position players, are back in the saddle. And, yes, beating out the Dodgers and Giants is a feather in our cap. You don't have a pool, Dodgers, but we just peed in it.

It is why I have stayed with the D-backs 'til the end of each season before watching Suns games and have left them when the D-backs were back in action.

As solid a supporter as I have been of Chip Hale, I am so glad that he is here to manage it all.

And with Diana Taurasi returning to the Mercury, this will be quite a summer for Arizona fans. 'Tis the season to be jolly. Happy holidays, everyone. :)

I was trying to remember how much the DBacks saved with their moves last year. I think it was about 15 million, between Arroyo and Cahill. Does anyone have an idea of the total we saved with the moves we made?

Also, I read that the TV deal was for 1.5 billion/20 years. Any idea how that is paid out?

According to Paola Bolvin Twitter page, the odds for the Dbacks winning the World Series went from 65-1 to 18-1.

I don't know if it's ever been 'finalized' in print, but yeah $1.5 over 20yrs seemed to be the general consensus after some research.

The thing you'll notice with Grienke's deal is that it has deferred money - a first under Kendrick I believe. The deferred money should coincide with the TV deal. Don't be surprised if we start seeing more deferred money contracts for big name players. With the TV deal the deferred money shouldn't break the future budget like it did under the Colangelo years.

The best part about this is the shock on the faces of the giants fans, dodgers fans and the old hat media members like Keith Law who now have to rethink everything they ever knew about the Kendrick era of this franchise.

I don't know what happened, but Kendrick has essentially co-opted he genius of Michael Bidwill in how he has surrounded himself with incredible front office people. I knew when Uncle Tony got here things would change for the better but never expected it to be what it has. 3 years ago I would have laughed in your face if you told me the Dbacks would have pulled off the Thomás and Greinke signings.

Not to get our hopes up or anything, but maybe, just maybe the Arizona DBacks organizations may just have WS title No. 2 or maybe even No.3 under their belt in just a few years!!!

Need another TOR starter and bullpen help. The latter could be accomplished in-house with Huddy and De La Rosa possibly.

Ardolis Chapman. I want a fire breathing dragon as a reliever. Unfortunately, it looks like the Dodgers are close to completing a trade for him :(

I think we signed the best FA pitcher we could have this year. I like Greinke better than Price.

It was very unexpected.

Edit: So...we are deferring $60M for the 5 years after he's done pitching for us?

I also loved the "straight out of left field" aspect of the signing. No one saw this coming. The front office went for it and nothing got leaked until it was a done deal.

A refreshing change from the previous regimes strategy of announcing every intention well in advance and with a bull horn... only to get played by agents and opposing GMs who already knew exactly what the Dbacks were looking to get and give.

Greinke "Minutes Away" from resigning with the Doyers

http://www.latimes.com/sports/dodge...inke-dodgers-diamondbacks-20151211-story.html

How close was Zack Greinke to returning to the Dodgers?

Asked that question Friday at a news conference with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Greinke smiled.

“Without getting too detailed, we were minutes away from going to a different team,” Greinke said. “It was that close.”

He was presumably talking about the Dodgers.

Greinke acknowledged that until the Diamondbacks became a late entrant in the sweepstakes to sign him, he was negotiating with only two teams, believed to be the Dodgers and San Francisco Giants.

Extra year, plus signing bonus
The Dodgers are believed to have offered Greinke a five-year deal worth close to $160 million.
