hah! I must be in the minority here because i actually enjoyed eric... after usa lost in the world cup he was the first one to call out bruce for his poor tactics... i would rather see him than julie foudy that is for sure....

where is heather mitts when you need her?

Eric hasn't been afraid to call anyone out, a player or a coach. For a former player he sure lets it fly.

I like Wynalda too, I loved when he said he'd kick Jim Romes ass if he badmouthed the game around him.

People don't like how outspoken it is but I find it refreshing compared to a lot of guys afraid to speak their minds.

I also heard Harkes being called out when he does the US games by calling the US as "we" or "us"...so what? He's an American, former team captain broadcasting an American soccer game, he doesn't need to be impartial. Do you think the announcers in other countries are completely neutral? Harkes still has work to do as an announcer but he's not bad...Bruce Arena was bad terrible, worst TV voice ever.

Italy finally had luck on their side this tournament, but it was bad to see Ribery go down early. After the penalty and the card, the game was pretty much over.

France has to start over with a new coach and a lot of new players.

Wow! Turkey again plays awesome in the clutch. Equalizing in the final seconds, about to go to a shootout now.

Go Turkey.

Wow!!! I figure the match is over by the time I get home, but they're just going to extra time. Turkey really took it to Croatia, but then the bad break on the awful keeper decision was the end, I thought. Not so! Then, when Croatia missed the first PK, I figured Turkey had it in the bag. I'm glad that guy (can't remember his name) missed the first PK; he spurned the Magpies for Hotspur ;)

Shame for Croatia because they played a great tournament. Plus I bloody love Bilic.

I think Germany will handle the Turks mind. I like Turkey, just like Germany more.

Tonight should be good if Russia show up. Holland will be alright, just hope they can continue their rich vein of goalscoring form.

Lucky is more like it, next round even luck won't do it for Turkey I am pretty sure.

one writing from hannover would say germany will win.

talking about luck, dirty ballack's push on defender was not seen by the ref,how about that for a luck?playing teams like polland, austria in group stage?germany wouldn't even have made it here if it wasnt for the luck.
turkey's 8 players are either injured or missing the game due to card suspensions, how about this for germany's luck?

Yeah, those pesky Germans are always lucky. In fact I vote we take away all the trophies they have ever won.

Yeah, the Russians were fantastic and probably should have had a few more. Spain for me tomorrow, in heart and mind.

There is no way to take this comment seriously since it is obviously biased.

Russia was spectacular, but let's face it, the Netherlands looked pretty bad. They didn't even have a midfield today.

Hiddink is one of the best for getting the absolute most out of his teams during tournaments. Not sure how many recall me wanting him to be hired by the US after WC 06...sigh. What he would do to the US Soccer program.

I didn't think the Russians would win but they outplayed the Dutch for large stretches of the game and deserved that result.

Tomorrows game should be exciting, the Spanish have played better so far but you can never count out the Italians especially in the knock out rounds and Toni has got to score eventually, I am actually starting to feel bad, he gets himself in good position but is just off target. I want Spain to win though.

All 3 group winners have lost so far, and if that trend continues, then Spain is in for a long day.

It will be a tough match for Italy not having Gattuso and Pirlo. If Donadoni is smart at all he will start De Rossi, Perrotta and Aquilani....even though that doesnt help us alot with our defense, at least those 3 have played together with Roma so there will be some chemistry. Perrotta and Aquilani will also push forward alot more than Pirlo and Gattuso would so it might help us put a goal in early. Either way though it should be a good game, the Italians sure know how to show up for big games....but Spain is healthier and a little more talented.

I know that the Italian style is not very popular, but I like their great team defense. Today Spain impressed me, they were not flashy but beat Italy in their own game in a tactical battle.

Spain always had problem beating the best defensive teams, thats why they lost always in the quarter finals, while this Spanish team has everything to win the title: a great goalkeeper, decent defense, rock solid midfield and good forwards. And they play the game as a team, which wasnt always the case.

I agree. Love watching Italy play. Spain deserved with a much stronger PK round.
