EVEN w/o injury it should be Skelton time.

Maybe we should all just pitch in for a "Start Skelton" billboard... that seems to have worked out well.

Backup QB is always the most popular guy on a bad team. Nevermind the guy has been hurt and hasn't been able to practice at all for most of the season. If the current coaching staff had interest in developing Skelton long-term, they wouldn't have invested so heavily in Kolb.

The current coaching staff is a big part of the problem.

I wasn't trying to suggest that they aren't a big part of the problem -- just that the calls for Skelton are unrealistic.

Why do I think Whis would be sitting Big Ben not that I'm drawing a direct comparison?

I find it odd that those who say Kolb needs more time have already given up any hope for Skelton. Now I am not saying Skelton is the answer but for a rookie from Fordham he actually showed me something last year.

With same OT's pass blocking... it is worth a try especially if Mr. Checkdown is gimpy.

We had a worse o line last year. Our interior is great this year. Yes the back up QB is the most popular guy on a bad team but, if Skelton sucked I would not be calling Bartel to take his place.

People do realize Kolb is averaging a full 2.25 yards more per attempt this year than Skelton did last year? If Kolb is Mr. Checkdown what was Skelton?

Some of that is when you complete less than 48% your YPA sucks but the fact is Skelton made very few big plays last year.

He's young and should get better but he's exactly the kind of kid people are saying doesn't do well under Whiz because he's a project, he's very inaccurate quite mechanical and very unpolished. If Whiz can screw up Leinart and Kolb what do you think he'll do to a guy like Skelton?

I thouhgt Bartell looked decent the few times he played. In practice who is taking most of the backup snaps.. Whiz is in a dilema in that we gave up the world for Kolb who is proving he is a abstract failure. He or the guys that selected Kolk will look like the fools they are if Whiz pulls him now. He does not seem to understand he looks more foolish if he keeps on trotting Kolb out there. One has to wonder what the team players think of Kolb? Do they think he should be pulled and replaced by one of he other QB's? This is the type of situation that will cause the players to not play as hard or take risk they normally would take. If the players have given up on Kolb there is no question in my mind that the coach should give one of the other QB's a shot.

They finally took out Jefferson after he was burned for the upteenth time late in the game. What a sorry situation in the defensive backfield. To think we gave up a good CB as part of the kolb deal. Kob would not even be worth our former CB by himself much less a 2nd rd pick and a 61 mil contract. Heads should roll up top in any real organization and a real organization should be established. One would think we are still being run by Mr. B Sr.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Results speak for themselves.

Is it not amazing how bad the Colts became by just losing their QB Manning? Just goes to show how important a QB is. From one of the best teams in the NFL to perhaps the worst teams in the NFL. Sort of like what Warner meant to us. Do he coaches realize just how important a QB is to a team?

Could Skelton possible be any worse than Kolb? Coaches often change QB's in the middle of a game so it is sure no stretch to change one after losing 6 in a row and looking horrible while doing it. When your aircraft is in a tailspin action is required by the pilot right now or you die. You do not worry about how much the plane is worth or what you paid for it. I don't care if we paid 100 million dollars for Kolb. That is irrelevant to winning or losing. All that shows is we made a very horrible mistake. He continues to get worse with each game. If he were improving with each game then you keep him in there. Yesterdays scores were largely the result of turnovers and field goals. Kolb could have had several interceptions and was fortunate to get his fumble back. He has no clock in his head and does not sense the rush. He drops back to far generally and appears to lack the courage to step up in the pocket. It is not like his feet are the only problem that needs to be fixed. He has many problems that are in need of repair. He is 28 years old and not a rookie. Andy Reid had us and we just purchased the Brooklyn Bridge. We have some good looking rookies starting in this league. Cam Newton is losing but you can see he gets better with each start. It is only a matter of time until he becomes a super star. Several oher rookies are starting. As one poster noted we would be a much better team if we had made no moves at all this year. It is not hard to be better than 1-6 and still have a large bill on your desk that will come due. The worst is yet to come.

Skelton cannot get any worse results than Kolb so why not start him? I do not expect much out of him and I did not expect much out of Jim Hart when he went in for an injured QB. Some sort of change needs to be made when you are 1-6. Generally you start with the QB.
Whiz must think Kolb gives us the best chance of winning as Whiz must know his job is also on the line. That tells me Whiz is not very bright or I am am not very bright. There is also the possibility that Graves has ordered Whiz to keep Kolb in the lineup to protect his boss who may have wanted Kolb from the get-go. If we have kept Skelton as our backup for two years we must think something good of him. He and the other QB are the only thing we have to turn to. I doubt Skelton will ever be our starting QB of the future and I thought the same thing about Jim Hart. I will be most interested to see just how management will handle this horrible season at the end of the year. If we continue down this road and make no significant changes in management or at QB I am ready to throw the towel in and just accept the fact that we will contend about once every 50 years by accident. I will, as always, hope "just wait until next year".

I would add we are running the ball better this year than last. This may help Skelton some.

Many people have noted our OL is a decent blocking line. We are big up front which may account for that. Other teams know we are horrible at passing and are selling out to get to the QB which makes our OL looks worse than it is on passes. To many fast pass rushers and to many rushers for our OL to handle. It is the old story if you cannot pass you cannot make many long runs as the defense will load up to rush the passer. In particular one like Kolb who seems to go into panic mode. If you cannot run consistently they will load up to stop the pass. I am not seeing many plays designed for the consistent pass rushing we are getting. Something like more screen passes. That is in part a coaching problem. I am sure all of us are wondering what are we going to do next year to make us a better team? I gave up long ago on this team being any where near contention although some of the experts had us down as a contender because we got Kolb. Just think about it what had Kolb ever done to deserve what we gave up for him. He had no history of success. His manager was very eager to get rid of him and talked him up ever chance he got. We took the bait. I wonder who else offered anywhere near what we gave up for him. Just think we almost had to give up a number one pick which could turn into an Andrew Luck or another real QB of the future. Aside from Luck there are some other good QB's showing up on the radar now. Our Arkansas QB is setting all sorts of passing records and is 6'3" 235 lbs and has the heart of a lion. He will stand in the pocket as long as it takes and has great accuracy and a big arm. He should be on the Heisman watch. He will likely be a first round pick unless he decides to come back for his senior year. We will play LSU the last game of the season and are currently 7-1 losing only to Alabama who I think is the best team in the nation.

You don't hand a 2nd round pick and 54 million to give up on him after 7 games.

Not a chance.

What you pay a guy and how he performs has no direct relationship. If that were the case you would simply pay your players a lot of money and you would have a good team. You may pay him a lot of money but more often than not he does not turn out as you hoped. Some players seem to regress after signing a big contract. Matt Leinart and Jake Plummer I think made more money than Kurt Warner. Very different results.

How long do you wait for a guy to develop who you gave a big contract to? 6 months, 1 year, 2 years?

Bartel > Skelton in preseason and camp. Why Skelton?

He moved ahead of him a couple of weeks ago for whatever reason.

My guess is Whiz saw Bartel against Minn and realize he's just not that good. He had 1 pick and could have easily had 2 more, he just doesn't seem to get throwing into coverage is a bad idea usually.

Skelton is at least more safe with the ball

The issue is by benching Kolb the teams admits they were wrong and looks like fools to the league, and And Reid gets to let out a hearty guffaw while he chows down on his 4th cheesesteak of the day.

But, there is a simple fix: tell the medical staff not to clear Kolb due to his "turf toe" and then start Skelton in his place.

Is Skelton completely healthy or is he still nursing the foot injury from the preseason?

Right. Bartel had his chance vs Vikings and blew it. I think the problem is that he throws too many soft passes. That is why he looks good in preseason and bad in games. The top DBs get to those floaters while the 2nd and 3rd tier guys only do so occasionally.

But darn Bartel sure looks like an NFL QB. Too bad he doesn't play like one.
