If we can get Perkins, Lamb and the Toronto first I would be completely down with that. I truly believe that Lamb will be one of the best pure shooters in the league in a couple years and Perkins/O'Neal could do a decent job of filling in for Gortat. Also the Toronto first would be sweet especially if it's unprotected. I am really high on Lamb though and I truly believe he will be scoring 17+ PPG in a couple years and he is a decent defender as well.

why in the world would the Clippers ever do that? DeAndre Jordan is much younger than Gortat, already on a decent contract and can run like a gazelle with that team and Eric Bledsoe is a dynamite back-up PG who won't hit FA until 2016.

Sorry, but it appears misleading or just flat out wrong thread titles are the norm in this forum. "Experts"??? "Top 5 trade ideas"??? Where the hell do you folks come up with this crap? The article was from one guy, never called himself an expert, and clearly said he was just throwing out 5 ideas, not claiming they were the best 5 ideas. Jeez... WTF?

Between that and the sudden love fest over Gortat based on the Portland game. He was playing against a rookie, one that is pathetic on defense. One that O'Neal schooled too. If Gortat can bring in assets and picks, you trade him. He has no value to this rebuilding team other than as a trade. No way should the Suns give him an extension @ the $10-12 mil. a year he wants. No way should they let him expire without getting something of value back... see Steve Nash. This season he has his highest value, not next. If he isn't gone by the deadline, another colossal FU by the front office.

You want to take that off full auto?

The current team is heading for a 37-40 win season, enough to be OUT of the top 10 picks.... and the cycle will continue next year... again missing out on studs and stock piling Robin Lopez/Markieff Morris level rookies... not good.

Suns FO need to make a decision soon....

Gortat + Dudley for Lamb + Perkins + Raptors Pick 2012

Is 1 step backwards, but will be 2 steps forward come at the end of the season.

Why?
Suns get higher pick (Top 8)
Raptors are so bad at the moment that pick will be top 5 at worst.

Perkins will provide 7-8 points, 7-8 rebounds.... he will then become valuable next season as an expiring and a contributor to a team needing a big body.

Suns get another top 10 pick...

2014-2015.... packed with studs.

As inconsistent as Gortat has been I'm not even sure it would be a step back in the short run. For as long as Jermaine stays healthy, a Perkins/O'Neal combo wouldn't be much different than what we're seeing.

I cant see Jermaine staying healthy. I know we have The Hands of God as a personal trainer and all, but if the front office views the playoffs as a possibility then I dont think you can bank on O'Neal to stay healthy. And Perkins has really devolved into a sub par player. I'd still do that trade because I do think we need to cash in on Gortat's value, but I'd like to pretend we could get a third party who would take Perkins. Remember how bummed he was to be traded to OKC because he wanted to contend in Boston? Its hard to think how poorly he would take a trade to a floundering non-contender like us.

Anyway, moral of the story, I do think the downgrade from Gortat/O'Neal to O'Neal/Perkins would be severe, especially when their durability and us looking at Tyler Zeller as next in line is factored in.

Its a move to make when the Suns are officially out of the hunt, but that timing works anyway because I dont see OKC doing another shakeup until jan or feb and only then if they are lagging behind the elite.

It seems like there is already a thread about it, so nevermind. :)

It is reported Gortat wants to finish out his contract running through 2013-14 with the Suns as he turned down a multiyear extension in October. See link to an article from Paul Coro at azcentral dated 11-25-12. This concerns me so it makes me lean towards doing a trade.

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/sun...ion-until-present-deal-up.html?nclick_check=1

He probably has one more decent contract coming. I don't blame him one bit. I wouldn't want to finish my career with a team going nowhere anytime soon. Barring some huge trade if I was Gortat I would ask for a trade or play out my contract and hit the open market. There will be high demand for him.

When he was traded it was to a team with some hope. Now? I would want the hell out too.

Too bad fans get locked into a team and not look at it as a business, which it is for owners and players. I do see some apathy setting in on my part so there is that.

Sorry to hear that. I think apathy is understandable but for me, there is a cure when that starts to set in. I take a break from the internet and sports talk shows and I go back to just watching the game for the enjoyment of it. Participating in a forum such as this is great but it can really wear you down as a fan. We get so critical about every aspect of our team that we forget what it's like to just enjoy the moments. Without expectations, without the Sarver hate, without the details we obsess over, you can actually watch this group of players out there and be entertained. JMO.

You speak the truth about combating apathy.

I endured the Suns purported drug scandal and enjoyed watching the players and the game without benefit of a sports forum. However, I did believe in Jerry Colangelo and was comforted that the Suns would rise again. I do not have that foundation this time around.

Hey, we survived the endless Jason Kidd/ Cliff Robinson pick and pops, and the second unit Tony Delk/ Rodney Rodgers endless bad three point shots. We'll all get through this. :D

I have been a fan since I was a kid and have seen year after year after year of entertaining basketball with an end result of a couple finals appearances and ZERO titles. I have enjoyed my share of entertainment. I have invested in my share of tickets and merchandise. Maybe it's my age or maybe it's all the empty results. I hear you about apathy because I just don't have as much patience any more for a team that is satisfied with putting an entertaining product on the floor versus a title contender.

I think Suns fans have a right to expect results from a franchise that is #1 in all of sports with wins and still no title. I think as fans you expect results because you support your team. I think most fans are well aware of the business side of things because it's their hard earned money that pays the Suns bills. The longer this franchise goes without a title, the harder it is for fans not to feel some sort of apathy to a team that can't get it done.

Cubs fans aren't apathetic.
