I'd luv to resign him but the reality is we've got out RB duo going past this year already...the DJ & Dre show. So Run CJ into the ground
+1
He is showing us what a real quality RB can do. He still has it and watching him run so hard and knowing when to hit the hole is enjoyable.
At the right number I would bring him back on another 1-2 year deal. Nothing longer, but I think he might be looking for more money.

Gee, what a nice way to put it. Use him up then throw him away.
.
I think if I've noticed anything about the new nfl you need depth at every position I would like him back next year a three headed monster is still better than a two headed I wouldn't run anyone into the ground jmo
Can't run him too hard, he's still on AARP and we're really going to want him fresh and badass for the playoffs. He adds something the other two don't. IMO he's a true pro, he's a grinder, and he's a better blocker by far than the other two.I'd luv to resign him but the reality is we've got out RB duo going past this year already...the DJ & Dre show. Ellington starting last year and getting beat up running into a country road is worse than speeding CJ down a highway because old man Johnson is not gun shy (no pun intended). Ellington is a very dangerous X factor running back and it is DJ which will become our starter but what we have now with CJ cannot be put lightly and ignored and having him in the future for a extended contract is advantageous
What he said....errr , wait I'm not sure I understood the last sentence

Calling CJ a grinder is the ultimate compliment. He's been portrayed as flash and kind of soft and finesse, but he's anything but that, he can grind all game long on short-medium runs and never shies away from contact, he puts a hat on guys.

The playoffs is what I meant when using him big time.
I still think DJ is special & next year we'll see that
I'd love to re-sign him, but we'll see what his price is.
I think people underestimate how good this dude still is. It's not just his plant and cut ability, or his speed, it's that he can hit holes and get the tough yards. In the playoffs those holes tend to shrink and the hits get harder. Ellington is awesome in a change of pace role or flexed out at receiver but the only RB we have that can grind all game and move the chains is Chris Johnson.

I was thinking the same thingHe would be leading, if he had started game 1.
These are key for us. The young guys still have things to learn. The fumble issue is huge.As he gets older, his touches may diminish, but he can probably be counted on to still get you the hard yards, not fumble, and fall forward.
I agree...He's a bit older and definitely lost half a step (2 years ago CJ scores on that 40 yard run today)...He reminds me how of Marcus Allen with KC...As he gets older, his touches may diminish, but he can probably be counted on to still get you the hard yards, not fumble, and fall forward...He will continue to lose some speed and may not be able to break away, but will keep that vision for hitting the holes and getting you 4-5 yards on a consistent basis.
No way. I love what CJ is doing, but we can already see a step lost and another year is going to lose another with his age. We've got two good young RBs and can add another next year while saving pretty much every penny we need to finally make a splash with SOMEONE who can get to the QB.
