I just received a text from KTAR stating that Faneca announced his retirement.
Meh..
Meh..
Here is a statement Faneca released this afternoon:
"After a lot of thought I am announcing my retirement from Professional Football. Playing in the NFL has been a childhood dream come true. Thirteen years later I have decided that it is time to move on.
agreed. this forces us to get better as opposed to just standing still which i feared. or it forces us to go cheap... either one.
IDK how much cheaper we are going to be able to be cheese. When football starts again it's pretty much a given that there will be a cap and right now we are WAY under the minimum.agreed. this forces us to get better as opposed to just standing still which i feared. or it forces us to go cheap... either one.
That could greatly improve our Oline Kosier played locally and his college ball at ASU. He was one of the steals of the 2002 draft, maybe we can get him to come home. Clabo is a monster and would improve our Oline by leaps and bounds. Both may be costly, open they checkbook. My FA plan is to go out and grab:
G - Kyle Kosier - Dallas
RT - Tyson Calbo - Atlanta
QB - Matt Hasselbeck - Seattle
Plus a few no-name backups/camp fodder to fill out the roster

Clabo will never see free agency.
We have a very good guard on the roster: Levi Brown; its time to go get an LT in FA...Good. Now we can go out and get a good G when FA opens up. Faneca was a shell of himself last year.
I wouldn't be so sure:

The Falcons have a lot of people that they need to re-sign. They may not be able to afford to keep Clabo.

Oh, and congrats to Alan Faneca on a great career.
I don't know if it was HOF worthy but he will be looked back as one of those really good players, that made his mark in the league.
I do not think this forces the Cardinals to do anything, IMO.
Rex Hadnot will be the start that is pencilled in for now, IMO.
I coulda sworn he retired at the start of last season.
Oh well. He wasn't very good for the Cards but wasn't that their fault? They could have had him for his last productive seasons a few years ago but as usual, could not get him signed. It's funny how other teams seem to find the money to sign some of these high priced veterans every now and then.
His decision is good overall for the Cardinals. It's bad from a leadership and continuity standpoint but great in that it might spark some much needed change to the O-line.
I think what we will see the Cards do is re-sign who they got (Sendlein and Lutui), sign a project/back-up type guy for interior line depth, and promote Hadnot to starter. I believe that line will be better than last years.
A couple of moves I would like to see would be, moving Levi Brown back to RT and signing a quality LT but...I do know the team I root for so I don't see those moves happening.
