Story and Frost Back for Fantastic Four 2
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
December 5, 2005

The Hollywood Reporter says that Fantastic Four director Tim Story and screenwriter Mark Frost have signed up for the sequel, which 20th Century Fox has set for a July 4, 2007 release.

The first installment, which grossed more than $154 million domestically, also had been slated for a July 4 weekend release but switched to July 8 to avoid a head-to-head clash with War of the Worlds.

Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis are expected to reprise their roles, as they originally signed deals extending through a planned trilogy. However, Julian McMahon, who played villain Victor Von Doom in the first film, will not be back because he instead opted to star opposite Sandra Bullock in thriller Premonition, which begins production in January.

The Fantastic Four DVD hits stores on Tuesday, December 6.

Any movie that grosses over 100 mil is good enough for a sequel in the eyes of Hollywood.

The one thing that disappoints me: Tim Story is back. He's not a good action director, IMO. At least, he wasn't in FF.

Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four 2?
Source: Variety
May 4, 2006

Variety reports that Marvel's Silver Surfer is on course to become a linchpin in Fantastic Four 2, which 20th Century Fox is readying for a July 4, 2007 release.

The character has evolved into one of Marvel's more sophisticated comic book heroes. A Surfer feature has been in Fox's arsenal for a decade, but the studio waited because the project is so ambitiously f/x-heavy and Fox has been busy with other Marvel franchises.

The wait ends with "FF2." The storyline is being finalized, with the studio about to choose between a script by X2: X-Men United scribe Mark Frost and another by Don Payne, who scripted Fox/New Regency's My Super-Ex Girlfriend.

According to the trade, Payne's script is the frontrunner and includes the Surfer.

They better hurry up and write the mole man part for Paterno or he'll be too old to do it.

If they script the Invisible Woman (Alba) as being able to simply make her clothes invisible as a newly learned power, I will be at this movie....

Fantastic Four Sequel Moved 2 Weeks Earlier
Source: Box Office Mojo
May 15, 2006

In a classic case of history repeating itself, 20th Century Fox has moved their 2007 superhero sequel Fantastic Four 2 off its plum 4th of July release date to June 15, two weeks earlier, presumably to get away from DreamWorks' Transformers, which also laid claim to the holiday release date.

This follows the similar move of the original Fantastic Four away from the same weekend last year when it would have gone up against Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds, a move which proved to be a smart one for the studio.

Smart move.

eh. It tells me they think they have the weaker movie. Why not make Transformers sweat it out about going head to head with FF2? Let them move the date.

Because there would be no contest when movie goers have to choose between transformers and fantastic four.

That tells you that Fantastic Four I was a weak movie, not 2. The studio is not going to take a chance when Transformers is such a huge product, and already has garnered some buzz. It's all about money.

That said, it's going to be a huge summer, and probably pretty rough for Fantastic 4 no matter where it is released.

In 2007, most likely Spider-Man 3 will be the Memorial Day release, and of course Transformers will be July 4th. In-between the 2 we'll probably see the next Harry Potter, Halo, and who really knows--Pirates of the Caribbean 3 might be released within the month of June as well. Either way, Fantastic 4 2 should be released later in the summer, not earlier.

Huh. Thanks, but that's actually not what it tells me. It tells me wxactly what I typed the first time. If you meant that this is what it tells YOU, than that's one thing. But this is another.

Wow, I was just making a generalization. Way to come back like a jerk. Maybe I should have used the word, "One" rather than "You" if you were going to take it that literally.
