A common misconception that people have rather than spending the time & energy it takes to learn the truth.

An analogy.

Exactly. If you don't know...look it up or ask. If it's just your opinion I can respect that without agreeing.

Oh, and back on topic...You Are Not Alone is pretty much a tie for me with Man in the Mirror. I really can't decide between them.

I think Steeldog & dcr have done a pretty good job...and I wasn't here to debate it with you; just explaining the comment since you didn't seem to get it.

That's cool. Not sure what they are talking about though. We are all just stating opinions here, so not sure what the misconception is.

I knew Man in the Mirror was popular but I didn't realize how popular until I had seen the download figures on Itunes and Amazon.com. Holy crap....it was Man in the Mirror and Thriller by a mile in terms of download numbers. It was sick.

look what up?

Was making a general statement about some of the crap being posted about MJ. So much misinformation out there. Even the the media has down right gotten facts wrong on major media outlets. One example is that MJ settled the first case. Completely false. The insurance company settled the first case.......against MJ & his attorney's wishes. That would have been fought to the end as well if not for the insurance company. Simple facts that people jumping on the MJ bandwagon (fans & bashers alike) don't take the time to lookup.

You commented about MJ and the multiple molestation reports and essentially claimed them to be true because it happened more than once. Could you not see how the allegation could happen more than once if the person accusing MJ of abuse knew that he settled out of court for 10's of millions?

edit.. man. Work for 15 minutes and get totally left behind in the debate......;

Where was all the praise for Michael from these industry insiders before his death?

Yes, he was an extremely talented performer and showman. He sold a TON of records. Does that make him a musical genius? Like Elvis, his music will not be discussed in music theory class anytime soon.

A lot of Michael's fans were very young in his heyday.
I believe these are at least a couple of your comments that just seem ill-informed.

Michael has received praise from industry insiders for his music his entire life.

To compare MJ to Elvis with regard to music creation is laughable.

MJ's fans are in possibly the widest age/culture/whatever as anyone ever.

You Are Not Alone is probably top 5 but it is close.

Billie Jean is #1 but after that, Human Nature, PYT, You Are Not Alone, Smooth Criminal, and Rock With You might interchange depending on the day.

lol. Hate it when work gets in the way.

The question was who was to blame for Michael losing popularity and people not wanting to hear his music at the time (you asked was it the media's fault or ourselves). The point I was trying to make was that he alienated fans with his behavior. Based on many factors, it is the opinion of many that the odds are very very high that he has major (young) skeletons in the ol closet. We all have an opinion on that - you can't look it up.

I see. I think that he alienated fans based off of false allegations. Ah well. Great debate this as been anyway.

Yeah it's possible he is as innocent as a child, but do you really trust Michael and his attornies to tell the truth about such matters? He also said he'd only had 2 facial surgeries.

Exactly. People always throw "he settled" into the debate without the facts. I admit though, I am a little more biased because as I stated on another thread my buddies father works for the FBI (who was consulted) and they never found one shred of evidence to support the boys claims. In fact, the evidence they did find was in support of extortion and even made the recommendation to drop the case to the prosecution office to no avail. I had more inside info then the average bear.

It's not a matter of believing MJ attorneys. The settlement motion in the case is part of public records. There is a site that has the actually court settlement motion documents posted. I can find the link if you would like. I am stating the insurance company settled from a matter fact review of the documents. They made an independent settlement with the boy and MJ and his attorney's filed in open court they were against the settlement.

It was either CNN or MSNBC that had a great piece on the story and probably the only ones that I had seen reported this correctly. They even highlighted the portion of the documents confirming the above. Here is what I copied previously from an excerpt:

"the 1993 civil settlement made by Mr. Jackson's insurance company is not within Mr. Jackson's control... The settlement agreement is for global claims of negligence and the lawsuit was defended by Mr. Jackson's insurance carrier. The insurance carrier negotiated and agreed to a settlement, over the protests of Mr. Jackson and his personal legal counsel."
