To Ashes - Shadows Fall
The Art Of Balance - Shadows Fall
November Rain - G n R
Nothing Else Matters - Metallica
Marigold - It Dies Today
Through Her Eyes - Dream Theater

Most people probably wouldn't consider some of these power ballads, per se, but who gives a damn....

Dude, that was the first one that popped into my head!!!

"When I See You Smile" -- Bad English
"When I'm With You" -- Sherriff
"Nobody's Fool" -- Cinderella
"Every Rose Has its Thorn" -- Poison

And, the heinous, drunk, broken-hearted song that all my siblings and I have sung and cried to while doing shots of Irish whiskey ... "Bed of Roses" -- Bon Jovi. :D

Yeah... "High Enough" was probably the "Ultimate Power Ballad" back then and still is.... Nugent and Shaw were both amazing in that song......

"When I'm With You" reminds me of a girl who I had a MASSIVE crush on in the 6th grade ('88-'89)....

A story about "Every Rose Has Its Thorn".... One time a friend and I were at a restaurant after a nite at the club....Each table had its own mini juke-box and someone had on repeat for about 1-2 hrs both "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" and "Something To Believe In"....

I guess they had just broken-up and that song reminded them of their ex.....

Other favorite "Power Ballads" of mine are:
1) "Crying" - Aerosmith
2) "Again" - Lenny Kravitz
3) "Open Arms" - Journey
4) "Silent Lucidity" - Queensryche
5) "When It's Love" - Van Halen

Not a "power ballad" but I love Extreme's "More Than Words". When I was in college, we'd be out drinking at a bar off campus, and my friends would look at me and this one other guy like we were aliens, as we were the only black guys in the bar singing along word for word! I still have that problem today when I'm out with friends and any Weezer song comes on. What, a black man can't like rock!!?? :D

 This is a first. I don't care what color you are, to say you actually LIKE "More than Words" is tantamount to insanity! That song is THE ultimate party killing song! If you are having a big party and you need everyone to leave, just pump that through the speakers, and people will be paying YOU to get the hell out! :D

LOL Chap!! It ain't that bad man!! I could think of at least 5 songs that would murder a party worse than that!! Yeah the song is sappy, but maybe that's why it's best to listen in private when you can sing with pride! :p

4) "November Rain" - GNR

Absolutely great tune. Is it really considered a power ballad though? It's more of an artsy mellow kinda moody song. I tend to lump this song and Counting Crows "A Long December" in the same category. Same mood and both have a month in their title!

Here's how bad it is, I guarantee you if you have a party, more people will leave after "More Than Words" than if you played "We Built This City" by Starship! ;) :biglaugh:

I think you gotta grow up in the 80s, not be born in them, to fully understand, lol!

J/K, Kate. Your choice is not a bad one. My friends and I would scream that song drunk at frat parties in college. Ah, memories.

I guess it's a "quasi" power-ballad...I've always ranked/classified as GNR's "Stairway to Heaven" and "Dream On"....Yes.."November Rain" has a lot more substance/depth compared to the other power-ballads that have been listed thus far......

Others I'll add:

1) "Poison" - Alice Cooper
2) "More Than A Feeling" - Boston
3) "Feel Like Makin' Love" - Bad Company
4) "The Flame" - Cheap Trick
5) "I Remember You" - Skid Row

"Poison" ain't a Power Ballad! Come on KLL, just picking these out of a hat now? :D

Perhaps he's "picking them out of somewhere else now!"... Oh.. thats right.. you were referring to me! :D

Anyways...I guess we somewhat all define "power ballads" differently.....

Although..I do agree with everyone's idea on "which songs would end a party"... that would actually make an excellent thread by itself....

Maybe I'm missing something - did GNR do a remake of Zepp's Stairway to Heaven & Aerosmith's Dream On?

This song came on the radio as I was leaving McDonalds with my family after I ran into some dude I liked. He and I had gone on one date and he never spoke to me again. :jackarse: In any case, saw him at McDonald's, he ignored me, song came on, I cried in the backseat of the Mustang and my mom laughed (not sure why). Stupid men (present company excluded, of course).
