I'll probably buy 10 when 11 comes out. I can't find myself paying $50 or $60 for a sports game. They are giving away a free copy of South Africa if you sign up for a year of ESPN Insider.

That would be an awesome deal if ESPN didnt annoy me so much.

I've been thinking about buying a soccer game for a while. Do you guys know if you can get called up to the national team during a Be a Pro carrer in Fifa 10 or 11?

No idea but that would be freaking awesome if you were to start out on a crappy MLS team then get bought by some EPL team and earn a spot on the national team.

FIFA 10 is fantastic, the gameplay is the best you'll find in a soccer game. You can get called up to the national team for friendlies in FIFA 10, and you can transfer your Pro to the World Cup game if you own both. However, one of my biggest gripes is that the EA games don't really capture the global feel of the sport. For instance, with the World Cup game all there is is qualification then the tournament itself. No continental tournaments, no other events like the Confederations Cup, no youth development, no long term planning. Same sort of thing with Be a Pro and Manager Mode in FIFA 10, for the most part you don't have much interaction with the soccer world beyond your one league. Its still a great game, but having a more robust international presence would make it so much better.

World Cup is awesome for the casual American fan. Very, very, very fun to play. I went through the Captain Your Country deal this weekend and it was possibly the most fun I've ever had playing a sports game, and I've played them all (including a fishing game!).

I totally agree with coyoteshockeyfan that there wasn't enough leading up to the world cup. I also hate how the player develops. I wish the skill development had better sessions to better learn the controller and learn the more subtle moves.

But as pure open-it/play-it fun, it's very difficult to top the World Cup game if only because it's incredible game play and your guy gets to wear the red, white, and blue while doing it.

I'm pretty sure you can be. I made a player in FIFA 09 that was called up to play for the US team. I'm playing FIFA 10 now, but can't get out of Manager Mode because I'm enjoying it too much.

Have you had trouble getting playing time on the US team because the coach sticks with crap players?

So, you get to choose which league you start out in? I'm going to be buying a soccer game soon.

In Manager Mode yes. I haven't tried playing as a player yet. I'll try it tonight and let you know. If I remember...

Edit: Also, FIFA 11 comes out in October, so buy used if you can't wait till then.

I want to build a team with KAKA, Messi, Ronaldo, Eto'o, Iniesta, Lampard, Fernando Torres, Zinadene Zidan or whatever, David VIlla, Donnie Alvis, Landon Donovan and Tim Howard, along with a few others. Then I wish I could play that team online and hopefully beat somebody.
