Right, people overlook that.

Over and over and over, it seems.

yes, but my question hasn't been answered yet. Can the Phoenix Suns trade one of their trade exceptions along with a player for someone like Gary Payton? I mean their salaries would come within 25%. :)

I knew that...just overlooked it in my post...(my bad)...

...the point is that Finley is looking at a severe cut in pay...at least short term. I wouldn't blame him for trying to recoup as much as he could.

To be fair,

The other thing that we are not bringing up is that Finley can get a 5 year deal at the full MLE from the Heat.

Now we could always sign him to the MLE next year as a good faith thing.

Bucher on ESPNnews said that there is a rumor that Cuban was trying to work a deal where Finley would get the full salary instead of the deferred payments if he went East (which probably caused my brain f art)...

Interesting. Smart move on Cuban's part, although I question the legality of it.

interesting indeed. not so much the legality of it (to be technical) but how that floats under the cba.

That can't be legal. The Player's Union letting owners dictate where players are signed? That's crazy! I can't see the Union doing that, especially considering this was only a one-time waiver.

Exactly. Owners and players can renegotiate a contract to remove a clause like that I am pretty sure. However if there was ever any proof that the removal was contingent upon where Finley signed the NBA would nail Cuban to the wall.

David Moore...the Mavericks insider was on Gambo and Ash just now...

...he said that he didn't think Finley would end up in Miami, Detroit, or San Antonio...cuz he wouldn't start.

He said that one of the things that made Finley so good was his pride...and he really wants to prove that he can still be a quality starter, and that last year was an aberation.

David Moore believes that Phoenix and Denver have the advantage due to the playing time he could get.

Interesting.....

Very interesting.

Also to note, I was watching Around the Horn (which is a horrible show BTW).

Anyways they were talking about where Finley would wind up, and 2 people picked Miami and one picked SA.

However.....

Tim Cowlishaw of the Dallas Morning News said Phoenix is where he would land because the money wouldn't matter and he also cited all the reasons we have been bringing up.

In other words, only one person out of four on Around the Horn is as smart as we are?

I wasn't very optimistic about the Suns chances of landing Finley before...

...but I'm from Dallas (lived there 20 years)...and David Moore and Tim Cowlishaw are top notch, respectable reporters...who are right more often than not...

...(David Moore won the National media competition for his NBA mock draft)....correctly predicting better than anyone in the country...based in part to his inside info and relationships with NBA teams.

I'm feeling beter now.

I just saw the Bucher report. He said that there is speculation that the contract is going to be reworked. After that he picked Detroit over Miami.

He is full of ****. Didn't he botch a big rumor last year?
